Hooked On High Heels album
$13.09 With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, which makes it a mild surprise that it is the only song here that doesn't come from his own pen. As superb and striking as it is, it's not necessarily a good keystone for the rest of the record, which does have a few tougher numbers that pick up on the lean, mean vibe of 2008's THAT DON'T MAKE ME A BAD GUY -- "Every Dog Has Its Day," the sly "If I Had One," and the heavy blues stomp "Loaded" -- but spends more time on the softer side, even when he kicks up a bit of dust on the dancefloor on "You Can't Read My Mind" or does a funny, respectful salute to military life on "Ballad ...

Hooked On High Heels music CDs
$13.15 Gregory Kent Lowery was born January 18, 1949 to Caroline and Keith Lowery in Ottawa, Illinois. The last of five boys, though his brother, Rodney, passed away as a toddler before Greg's birth. Greg was interested in music from a very early age—he started playing the guitar at age nine, and would often perform Elvis impersonations for friends and relatives. In 1963, Greg and two friends, Joe Halterman and Brian Gunderson, formed a band and performed in their first public appearance, on stage at their school during lunch hour. Later they were joined by Jim Travi and Rick Matthews, and the band The Sounds of Us was born. Later that year, Greg and his parents moved to Wedron, Illinois where they built a home on six acres along Indian Creek that they had purchased. Soon after their move to Wedron, the family got its first horse, a six-year-old Arabian named Ginger. The acquisition of Ginger eventually led to the decision to raise Appaloosas. Greg helped his father in this endeavor, and their herd quickly grew from the one horse, to over fifty. In 1966, Greg, Joe, and Brian started playing for local dances and parties. By the time Greg graduated from high school, he and the band were opening for national acts, such as Chicago's The Crying Shames . Later that year, Brian and Joe both received letters from a recording studio in Chicago , and Greg received a letter from Uncle Sam—he was to join the U.S. Army. This effectively broke up The Sounds of Us , and pre-empted Greg's music career. In 1969, Greg found himself at Fort Lenordwood, Missouri. After basic training, he was sent to Fort Rucker, Alabama, and then to Vietnam as a part of the 196th Aviation Company. He was in Vietnam for sixteen months, and later found himself stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, with the Army Flight Operations Department. After receiving his discharge in 1971, he returned home to Illinois for about three years before deciding to reenlist in the Army—with a guaranteed assignment in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In ...

$9.01 This Toronto based singer songwriter was raised on Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan, in the Northern Ontario town of Sault Ste Marie. She got her first guitar for her sixteenth birthday, learned to play and started writing songs. She studied voice at the conservatory during her undergraduate studies, played in a local cover band and wrote heart wrenching folk and country ballads. After living and working in the north, as well as in Ottawa and Galveston Texas, Christine went to law school and settled in Toronto to practice law in 1999. But even mountains of legal reading could not dampen her musical spirit! In ...
