(3 Customer Reviews)
Michale Graves, frontman of the Misfits circa 90's line-up, returns to the Horror rock genre for the first time under his moniker. The entire concept & recording is Michale's who wrote the material and plays all instruments except for the drums.
Personnel: Michale Graves (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass instrument); Paul Lifeless (drums). Audio Mixers: Mike Rucci; Paul Lifeless; Michale Graves. Recording information: Evolver Studios, NJ. Lead singer of the reincarnated late-1990s/early-2000s Misfits, Michale Graves released his solo debut in 2005 (later reissued in 2009) on the Horror High label. As one might expect, PUNK ROCK IS DEAD is heavy on both devilish B-movie shlock and anthemic singalong choruses. Subsequent releases from Graves betrayed a more introspective singer-songwriter approach, but PUNK ROCK IS DEAD is all about soundtracking the next ghouls' night out.

Social Distortion: Mike Ness (vocals, lead guitar); Dennis Dannell (rhythm guitar); John Maurer, Christopher Reece. Recorded at El Dorado Studios, Hollywood, California. Personnel: Mike Ness (vocals, guitar); Dennis Danell (guitar). Audio Mixers: Dave Jerden; Andy Wallace. Recording information: El Durado Studios; Hollywood, C and C Beach (1991). Unknown Contributor Roles: John Maurer; Christopher Reece; Dennis Danell; Mike Ness. Social Distortion finally achieves the perfect balance between their two major influences, the country anguish of Johnny Cash and the furious punk rock sound of early Clash, on their 1992 album Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, making it the band's finest hour. The band tears through a fair share of rollicking, straight-ahead hard rock with songs like "Cold Feelings" and "When She Begins," but they also show a reflective, heartfelt, country-inspired side with songs like "This Time Darlin'" and the hard rock tribute to "Folsom Prison Blues," the cold blooded, murderous tale "99 to Life." At times the band slows down the pace a bit more than on earlier albums, but the band hasn't lost ...

System of a Down: Shavo Odadjian (bass guitar); Daron Malakian, Serj Tankian, John Dolmayan. Personnel: Daron Malakian (vocals, guitar); Serj Tankian (vocals, keyboards); John Dolmayan (drums). Audio Mixer: Andy Wallace. Editors: Dana Nielsen; Jason Lader. Adjectives like "ambitious," "jagged," and "startling" have always defined System of a Down, and their third official full-length is no different. Prerelease, the band described Mezmerize as being the first part -- the first side -- of what's essentially a double album. The records' packaging would even slot together, making the eventual Mezmerize/Hypnotize whole. Appropriately then, there's an intro to System's ...

| | Yvonne Monnett Thanks For The Memory CD (2006)
Punk Rock Is Dead
$18.99 What do Stan Getz and Blossom Dearie have in common? Both offer their listeners an intimate, soothing, romantic and, at times relaxing kind of music. Swinging, simmering. The intersection of those commonalities is right where you’ll find the delightful Yvonne Monnett. One listen to her debut CD, Thanks for the Memory, confirms those seductive traits. Repeat listenings, as you no doubt will want to do, also reveal this singer/pianist’s sound to be warm, charming, intimate and honest. She’s a knowing veteran of many years on the jazz scene who has lived the songs she loves. In other words, it’s REAL. This is music to unwind by, with which to charm a visitor, or to play in the background as you and your lover dance – vertically or horizontally. The comparison to Ms. Dearie is inevitable, for she was one of Yvonne’s earliest and strongest influences, and from who she absorbed the art of performing intimate music in a way that grabs the listeners and brings them right into the song with her. Yvonne plays with grace, elegance – and a down-to-earth tease if the song requires it.That carefully crafted simplicity – of time, of phrasing, of accents and nuance – helps tell her stories with feeling. For Yvonne first and foremost considers herself a teller of great stories, just as Blossom Dearie, Carmen McRae and Charles Aznavour have done on their recordings. Her bright and at times spare self-accompaniment on piano was influenced by three other heroes – Bill Evans, Tommy Flanagan and Ahmad Jamal.Yvonne is a native New Englander who has been immersed in music literally since birth. She began her piano studies at age 5. She has worked music venues of all varieties since the 1970s and has become a much-sought accompanist for local and visiting jazz greats and also teaches jazz voice in the Applied Music Program at Brown University. Yvonne played for Bill and Hillary Clinton when they visited Rhode Island in 2002. Later that year, she accompanied young singer Billy Gilman in a live performance on NBC’s “Today” show in New York. The standards performed on Thanks for the Memory include the title track, a delightfully teasing versions of “Girl ...
