| | Goldfrapp Number 1 CD Goldfrapp Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
"Ooh La La" had already gained considerable steam as a single by the time of the EP's release (debuting at No. 4 on the U.K. singles chart), and the Tieschwarz Mix here expands on the song's insistent, club-friendly groove. The EP is rounded out by remixes of the title cut, which help to make this teaser totally satisfying in its own right.
Electro-pop outfit Goldfrapp draws heavily from early-1980s synth-pop acts like Berlin, disco divas like Donna Summer, and the edgy sounds of contemporary electronica. In anticipation of the group's 2005 full-length SUPERNATURE, Goldfrapp released the NO. 1 EP, a collection of six songs that previewed tracks from that album, including the thumping "Beautiful," the spacious, dreamy "All Night Operator," and "Ooh La La."
Goldfrapp: Allison Goldfrapp (vocals, synthesizer); Will Gregory (synthesizer).
Number 1 Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Number One for quality Goldfrapp enters the American continent with their new release Number 1, which is a preview of their upcoming release Supernature.
Having attained two top ten singles in their native Britain they hope to enchant American audiences with their music.
The EP may lack the music video or the remix of Lovely 2 See U by T.Raumschmiere that is part of the British singles set of Number One. However, you get the eagerly awaited track 'Beautiful'. Beautiful has the style of first single 'Ooh La La', but has more of a punch to it. While 'All Night Operator' shows their fan base that, they have not forgotten their roots from their beginnings.
The two remixes in Number One EP are 'Number 1: Alan Barke and Fred Falke Mix, which is a safe interpretation of the track, it extends it but does not take or remove anything from it. Lastly, Tieschwarz's Mix of Ooh La La only uses elements from the track, but does not give anything to show from the remix. I recommend the Andy Bell and Manhattan Clique remix of Ooh La La over the one supplied in Number 1 EP.
The video portion is a windows video file of Allison playing the song Number One on their recent festival tour during the summer of 2005. It is a small preview of what they will likely bring to the United States later on.

A great preview for an anticipated album... I live in the United States and happened upon Goldfrapp by accident in 2004 when I heard "Strict Machine" from her "Black Cherry" album. I immediately bought the album and it is still one of my favorite and most listened to albums in my library.
This EP is from her upcoming "Supernature" album, already released in Europe and Japan, but coming out in the US in March, 2006. In my opinion, the gem of this 5-track release is "Beautiful," which will be on the album. It's a 'beautiful' combination of the unique techno blends that is Goldfrapp with a pop edge that is more mainstream than in her other albums.
There is a video also of "Number 1" on this CD, which is a great preview of Goldfrapp's future progression into the mainstream in America! Submitted by Michael (Irvine, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Number 1 album
$7.09 Goldfrapp's "genetically enriched" Utopia EP combines all the tracks from both of the U.K. singles and features a whopping five versions of the title track, including the album version as well as several remixes. Jori Hulkkonen, Tom Middleton, and Tim Wright take the song in various dance-oriented directions, all of which are pleasant enough but not especially distinctive, especially when compared to the sweeping, icy grandeur of the original. Likewise, the live version of "Human" is notable more for how well Goldfrapp re-creates the atmosphere of Felt Mountain in a concert setting than for any variations or improvements on it. However, the whispery, exotica-tinged "Utopia (Sunroof Mix)" adds a subtle, fresh twist to the song, while Calexico's Spanish cover of "Human" expands on that song's filmic feel and takes it in a very different direction. Last but not least, the witty, electro-inspired rendition of Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" -- known here as "U.K. Girls (Physical)" proves that for all of Goldfrapp's haughty drama, the duo's tongues are placed firmly in their sculpted cheeks. Fans of the group who haven't already bought the U.K. singles from which this EP is derived will be pleased to know that Utopia is as entertaining as any mini-album with five versions of the same song can possibly be. ~ Heather Phares

| | Vikki Carr Love Story/Superstar CD (2003)
Number 1 CD music
$10.69 Originally released on Columbia, these two Vikki Carr albums zero in on easy listening versions of popular love songs from the '60s and early '70s. The rather formulaic treatments work best on the well-known compositions of the period, especially "If You Could Read My Mind," "For All We Know," and "So Far Away." Not an essential purchase for casual ...
| | Goldfrapp Black Cherry CD (2003)
Number 1 music CDs
$9.95 A striking departure from Goldfrapp's well-received, cinematically atmospheric debut, FELT MOUNTAIN, 2003's BLACK CHERRY finds the British electronica duo cutting loose with a more energetic and dynamic set. The approach allows vocalist Alison Goldfrapp to indulge her inner Debbie Harry, while multi-instrumentalist Will Gregory playfully nods to 1980s synth-pop on saucy, percolating tunes such as "Crystalline Green" and "Train." Though many of BLACK CHERRY's tracks are geared toward the dance floor, particularly the glam-tinged "Strict Machine," the record still has relaxed moments, including the gorgeously swooning title track and the wonderfully dreamy "Deep Honey." Adding texture to the mix are top-notch auxiliary musicians, most notably Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous on synthesizer and Portishead's Adrian Utley on guitar and bass, resulting in a surprisingly layered album that truly works its magic with repeated listens. For those enamored of the group's club-friendly direction, Goldfrapp would proceed down a strobe-lit alley even ...

Number 1 CD music
$16.45 Modern-day pop comes in all shapes in sizes, and P-1 have no problem touching upon several different pop approaches on their sophomore effort, 2006's Power. With a sound that runs the pop music gamut, lead singer B.A. handles whichever curve balls are thrown her way -- whether it be dance/house (the album-opening "Let's Go"), Latin pop ("Ladrona"), Jamiroquai-esque chillout tunes ("Wisteria"), or a reggae makeover of Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield." Admittedly, there are quite a ...
