A classic that's as integral a part of Christmas as lighted trees and mistletoe. Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart star in this rewarding holiday treat. Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart star. Though not quite on a par with the same-titled film starring Alistair Sim, this version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL is still a moving version of the classic story. A wealthy miser learns how wonderful and fulfilling life can be with a little generosity at Christmas time from three spectres who visit him the night before Christmas.

Christmas Carol Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Review of A Christmas Carol(1938) Like a fine vintage wine, this 1938 Joseph L. Mankiewicz production is not to everyone's taste. Nevertheless, it is the warmest, most sentimental, most "Christmasy" if you will, of all the many fine renditions of Dickens' tale of Christmas. The quality of the DVD is nothing less than superb. Highly recommended. Submitted by Phil (Baltimore, MD) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent Qualty Picture quality was great. It was great to see scenes that were left out or shortened when it plays on TV. Submitted by dgs54 (Norwalk-Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Merry Christmas! I won't spoil this for anyone who hasn't seen this version, but there are some really charming parts in this movie. The actor who played Bob Cratchit was June Lockhart's (we called her "Lassie's mother") father. There is no perfect movie of A Christmas Carol (it seems they'll leave out a part that will be in another version, or apparently the director never read the book, and changes something--like making Scrooge much too young), but this version always puts us in the spirit. Happy Holidays! Submitted by Gerry (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Let's Get Frank DVD (2004) Widescreen
Christmas Carol review
$17.89 The first openly gay congressman, Barney Frank was no stranger to confessing about sex on the congressional floor, which made him a daring but ideal choice for representing Bill Clinton during the late 1990s Monica Lewinsky impeachment scandal. This documentary by Bart Everly captures the engaging Mr. Frank as he shuttles from TV appearances to hearings and back again, revealing the work-a-day side of the daily battle for legal and constitutional rights. The impeachment hearing footage is fascinating, especially in showing how the key players of the event--Maxine Waters, Dick Armey, Ken Starr and Henry Hyde--are able to maintain a sense of humor and respect for one another even as they slug it out in a battle over the very definition of democracy. In addition to this being an insightful portrait of an outspoken, controversial official, the documentary also takes a clear look at the progress of gay rights in America, and conservative fears that homosexuality undermines the institution of marriage. Through all the right-wing gay bashing, lies, and other attacks, Frank's quick wit and unflappable poise never falters, showing that Clinton definitely made the right choice in selecting his representation. Rousing, riveting, and frequently hilarious, FRANK proves an engaging guide through the labyrinth of fear-mongering and hypocrisy that is partisan politics in Washington.
LETS GET FRANK is the story of one of Americas most well loved and outspoken politicians. Its also a hilarious and insightful movie ...
