| | Elton John Rare Masters CDs (1992)
Wow Hits 2006 CD music
$24.99 RARE MASTERS includes rare singles, previously unreleased material, and the long out-of-print FRIENDS soundtrack.
In addition to the expected b-sides and previously unreleased outtakes, RARE MASTERS is notable for including in its entirely the soundtrack John and Bernie Taupin wrote in the late-'60s for the British movie FRIENDS. The soundtrack songs are early, unpolished John, but among them is the touching buddy song "Friends," (not the Bette Midler-popularized Buzzy Linhart composition) a minor hit in 1971. Among the many surprises elsewhere on RARE MASTERS is "Rock Me When He's Gone," a gospelly number from 1971 ...
| | Jeffrey Osborne Love Songs CD (2001)
Wow Hits 2006 music CDs
$11.99 Digitally remastered by Gavin Lurssen (2001 The Mastering Lab)
Jeffrey Osborne was always known as a romantic crooner, so it makes sense that a collection of his "love songs" would work quite well, and Love Songs does. Spanning 18 tracks, including four cuts from his first band L.T.D., this isn't strictly a hits collection, although it does have such charting items as "On the Wings ...
| | Rippingtons Let It Ripp! CD (2003)
Wow Hits 2006 songs
$9.65 On Let It Ripp, the contemporary jazz masters known as the Rippingtons offer a mixed exhibition of musical paintings that freely roam their "live" aesthetic more than on any previous studio project. Recorded with no outside musicians except for the horns of Jerry Hey, Gary Grant, and Steven Hoffman, this excellent collection of 11 original songs written by Russ Freeman exemplifies the culmination of 17 years of being on the road. Special guest saxophonist Eric Marienthal (whose killer chops have been heard with the likes of Chick Corea's Elektric Band, among others) provides another level of energy to the already energetic sound of Freeman, who plays guitar, synths, and keyboards, Scott Breadman on percussion, Kim Stone on bass, Dave Karasony on drums, and Bill Heller, also on keyboards. Illustrious highlights of the program include "Let It Rip" (a dynamic mix of guitar and sax), "Mr. 3" (a tune dedicated to Freeman's love of golf), "Bella Luna," and "High Life" (a party tune that features a call and response between Freeman's guitar and the horn section). Overall, these fresh collaborations have the excitement of a new day, and by alternating currents of smooth jazz with an intoxicating mix of distinctive rhythmic influences, the top-level musicianship heard here is sure ...
