"Sweet Emma" was pianist and vocalist Emma Barrett, who had sung in the bars, clubs and saltier venues of New Orleans since 1910, when she was 12, and who can be heard, still performing vigorously, on this live 1964 recording. Since its inception in1961, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been home to both the contemporaries of jazz greats like Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, and Louis Armstrong and their musical heirs. This collection of traditional jazz standards is an invaluable link over the years to the foundations of this unique American musical form.

Long considered one of, if not the classic album from the Modern Jazz Quartet, European Concert defines them simultaneously as a recording entity as well as a working band. MJQ presented jazz in the context of a formally structured environment, much like a chamber group in the classical context. Within the band, the groove of Milt "Bags" Jackson's vibes met the solid swing of Connie Kay's drums, the funky strut of Percy Heath's ...

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.The "number 2" Album, entitled "TALKIN' SHIT", will be released JUNE 13, 2006. midWess was born and raised in the heart of the U.S.... EAST ST. LOUIS, ILLINOIS. (Learn about it). As a young poet, living in an urban community, midwess was destined to find hip hop. With the evolution and influences of a growing rap culture, his poems turned to raps. His writings grew from pages to books, and then to boxes of books. Soon after moving to Southern California in '98, midWess got his first grip on the mic. He met and started recording songs with a rap group called D.U.I. (under the alias "OCS"). After completion of this project ("Underground Dope from the D"), the group split and went their separate ways. midWess soon settled back in Illinois, moving from East St. Louis to Springfield, where he worked with his brother and rapper, Dolla Bill, under "Tha MINT" (Mentally Insane Niggaz Teachin').... and then Chicago, where he now resides. Along the way, he has built an alliance of singers, rap artists and producers who have watched him grow from an amateur to what he calls "a Genius with a pen, and a natural with a mic." He has spent the last few years building his own professional recording studio and production company. midWess has a LIBRARY of recorded songs, which he plans to release in the next few years. He has two scheduled releases for 2005: "midWess Presents the illest" ( a compilation album of artist from East St. Louis to Chicago), and "The Professa" (his second solo project). "Tha Professa" is due to be more hardcore, more hard-hitting and will feature EVEN MORE HITS on sucka A** MCs. Be on the look out!!midWess' has a sound like no other. TOTALLY ORIGINAL! midWess is MIDWEST on all accounts. Some say that he has a West Coast feel mixed with a Southern style and flow. When asked about his style, he commented that he ...
