| | Lil Wyte Phinally Phamous CD (2004) With DVD
Straight To The Pros
$15.05 Personnel: Lil Wyte; DJ Paul , Dirtbag, Frayser Boy, Josey Scott, Juicy J, Three 6 Mafia, H.C.P.. With a rapid mouth and an attitude that's straight-up crunk, Lil Wyte came out of nowhere, landed his "My Smoking Song" on every Southern mixtape that mattered, and ended up one of the flagship artists on the revitalized Asylum label. Not bad, and while mainstream rap fans won't find much to holler about here, crunk fans with a taste for underground beats will be supersatisfied. From start to finish, Phinally Phamous is hard, filled with street beats to make your head bob, and more fun than filling. Not that Lil Wyte can't make a point or two. He's just not a troubled soul like Eminem. He's more concerned with giving it raw and getting the party started, and Phinally Phamous does ...
| | Frayser Boy Me Being Me CD (2005) Parental Advisory
Straight To The Pros
$15.05 Personnel: Frayser Boy (rap vocals); Chrome, Lil Wyte, Mike Jones , Paul Wall , Boogie Mane (rap vocals). For everyone but the Dirtiest Southern thug, Frayser Boy is limited, B-list material. You've heard it all before. The usual "thugging and make paper," the "my rims are bigger than yours," and "they said I wouldn't make it, but look at me now" stuff fills Me Being Me, a honest title if there ever was one. Listening to the album is probably an experience pretty close to just hanging out with Frayser Boy, and since he keeps it real in a less ambitious way than his Three 6 Mafia brothers, this is a good thing. Rolling-on-the-weekend track follows life-on-my-block-is-hard track and so on, but a couple all the way live singles break this pattern and lift the album from good to real good. Its mixtape intro is left on for some reason, but "I Got Dat Drank" is the proper crunk reason to check the set, and with Paul Wall and Mike Jones as guests, the track is about 2005 gutter-club as you can get. "Seen Thangs" is a reflective ...

Straight To The Pros
$17.09 Best of Wild AsparagusIn the twenty years that Wild Asparagus has thrilled contra dancers nationwide, they have released five recordings. The band has selected their favorite cuts from these recordings. Contra’s distinctive characteristic is stylistic flexibility built on dance rhythm framework. While reflecting a solid Celtic background, Wild Asparagus brings you the best of modern contra.-----------------Band Members - Sam Bartlett, David Cantieni, Van Kaynor, Stuart Kenney, Mary Lea, George Marshall, Ann Percival, Sue Steinberg, Becky Tracy. Special Guests - Lee Blackwell, Keith Murphy, Danny Noveck, Dirk Powell.-----------------The journey began almost twenty years ago when three friends decided to make playing music for contra dances not just a hobby, but a career. Wild Asparagus caller and concertina player George Marshall remembers his enthusiasm for the oldtime jigs and reels that led him to form the band Swallowtail in the early days of the contra revival. “I was a student at Amherst College, and one day I literally ran down the stairs and across two quads, when I heard someone playing accordion. “We’re going to have a band,” I told him, “ and it’s going to sound great. “When he asked whether I played an instrument I had to admit ...
