| | Rod Stewart Absolutely Live CD - Import Rod Stewart Discography of CDs
Rod Stewart's liner notes to ABSOLUTELY LIVE go out of their way to stress the purity of this 1982 stadium concert recording. The mistakes have been left in, he swears, and audience interaction has been left intact (including a lewd show of appreciation by two young women during "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?") As the "Stripper" theme dissolves into the energetic "Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me)," the album bears out this claim.
As the album careens through hit after hit (16 in all), Rod can be heard working his magic; strutting, seductive, in all his raspy glory. Swaggering latter-day classics such as "Hot Legs" are crytstal clear in performance and over-the top in pure live energy. The early classic "Maggie May" is given a respectful arrangement, graced by organ and (plugged) acoustic guitar, which includes an audience sing-along, bringing the song to a near-orgasmic crescendo. Closing with appearances by Kim Carnes and Tina Turner for the sassy "Stay With Me," ABSOLUTELY LIVE captures one of rock's greatest legends at the top of his game.
Recorded at The Forum and Long Beach Arena in Los Angeles; San Diego Sports Arena, San Deigo; Wembley Stadium, London; The NEC in Brimingham, England.
Personnel: Rod Stewart, Kim Carnes, Tina Turner (vocals); Jim Cregan, Robin Le Mesurier, Jay Davis, Kevin Savigar, Jimmy Zavala, Wally Stocker, Tony Brock.

Absolutely Live
$19.79 Even when Meat Loaf hit a few stumbling blocks with his career in the '80s, he always remained one of rock's top concert draws, still able to pull off stirring and emotionally charged shows around the globe. And while a few Meat Loaf live albums came and went throughout his career (such releases as LIVE AT WEMBLEY and LIVE falling out of print), it wasn't until 1996's LIVE AROUND THE WORLD that the excitement of a full Meat Loaf concert was successfully captured on disc. A double-disc set, LIVE AROUND THE WORLD wisely focuses mostly on Jim Steinman compositions (overlooking ...

The follow-up to FIRE, the band's breakthrough smash, HONEY continued the Ohio Players' golden streak by building on the elements that made FIRE such a hit: smooth soul balladry, churning funk, and plenty of freaky, outrageous attitude (due in large part to the cartoonish lead vocals of Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner). Slow songs and balladry seem to play a larger part here, as the lush leadoff title track and the carpe diem anthem "Let's Do It" indicate. "Alone" strikes an unusually somber note for the Players in its sincerity, a mood marked by the song's comparatively spare arrangements.
But the Players thrive on pulse-quickening jams, too, ...

It took the Ohio Players numerous albums to make their funk masterpiece, but when FIRE was released in 1974, it proved the culmination of the hard-driving, bass-and-horn-heavy formula they'd been refining since the late '60s. The title cut, which became one of the band's biggest and best-loved hits, starts off with a fire siren and doesn't cool down from there, dropping into a thick, irresistible groove that deepens with added layers of keys, horns, guitars, and overlapping vocals. These classic funk arrangements also power "Runnin' from the Devil" and the slinky "Smoke," which features a jazzy guitar and scat ...

| | Leann Rimes I Need You CD (2001) Bonus Tracks
Absolutely Live
$7.09 With I NEED YOU, her first full-fledged pop album, former country child prodigy LeAnn Rimes makes the leap from Opryland to the bubble-gum strewn halls normally populated by the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Among the guests helping Rimes out with her crossover journey are veteran tunesmiths Dianne Warren, who contributes three songs, and Sir Elton John. Both of Warren's ballads, "But I Do Love You" and "Soon," are the perfect platforms for Rimes and her soaring vocals. The remaining Warren cut, "Can't Fight the Moonlight," is a perfect slice of chugging mid-tempo dance pop reminiscent of teen queen Jessica Simpson. Elsewhere, "Written in the Stars" gives Rimes a chance to duet ...
