A crook gets caught and refuses to reveal his accomplices until he learns his family is in danger. Richard Widmark stars.

Two-time loser Nick Bianco is caught during an armed robbery and pressured by the Assistant District Attorney to squeal on his cohorts. Nick refuses, but after his wife commits suicide and his daughters are put in an orphanage, he relents and goes to work for the prosecutor. He gets paroled and straightens out his life, but when the D.A. needs him to roll over on Tommy Udo, Nick finds he has to deal with the psychopathic killer himself.

A two bit thief (Mature) puts his family in untold danger when the district attorney convinces him to squeal on a fellow inmate at Sing Sing: the homicidal psychopath will stop at nothing to gain revenge. Academy Award Nominations: Best Supporting Actor--Richard Widmark, Best Original Story.

Richard Widmark's screen debut. Film opens with the notice "All scenes in this motion picture, both exterior and interior, were photographed in the State of New York on the actual locale associated with the story."

Kiss Of Death Quotes/Excerpts:

"Nick Bianco hadn't worked for a year. He had a record, a prison record. They say it shouldn't count against you. But when Nick tried to get a job, the same thing happened... So this is how Nick went Christmas shopping for his kids." (Opening narration, as Nick prepares to pull an armed robbery) "I wouldn't give you the skin off a grape." (Tommy Udo to Assistant District Attorney D'Angelo) "Your side of the fence is almost as dirty as mine." (Convict Nick Bianco, in the process of making a deal with Assistant District Attorney D'Angelo). "I'm askin' you: where's that squealin' son of yours?" (Tommy Udo to Rizzo's wheelchair-bound mother, just before he pushes her down the stairs)

"Udo pushing a wheelchair-bound old lady down the stairs -- one of the most iconic moments in all noir -- is still chilling." -- Grade: B+ -- Edward Karam, Entertainment Weekly

5 stars out of 5 -- "Richard Widmark stole movie....Widmark plays evil like be-bop, becoming an eternal dark icon..."-- Allan Jones, Uncut

"This is quintessential film noir, hardboiled, vicious but with pathos and lyricism too."-- Geoffrey Macnab, Sight and Sound

5 stars kiss of death
i really enjoyed this film. richard widmark was superb as tommy udo. "kiss of death" is acclaimed as a classic of the film noir genre. an amusing anecdote is that both crazy joe gallo and john gotti at a point in their respective "careers" both tried to model themselves on richard widmark's tommy udo.

1 star KISS OF DEATH REVIEW
THE MOVIE STARTED OUT OK,BUT WHEN JOHNNY ITO (RICHARD WIDMARK) ROLLED THE WOMAN IN THE WHEEL CHAIR DOWN THE STAIRS THE SCENE WENT BLACK AND RUINED THE BEST SCENE IN THE MOVIE. THESE BLACKOUTS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES DURING THE FILM AND RUINED THE CONTINUITY OF THE ENTIRE FILM.

Acclaimed Christian rock singer Michael W. Smith stars in this uplifting drama about an idealistic associate minister named Ethan, who works at a well-to do Tennessee Ministry run by his father (J. Don Ferguson). The ministry seems to be more interested in opening up new churches in other countries than it is in taking care of its own African-American poor right there in Tennessee, much to the chagrin of Jake (Jeff Obafemi Carr) who runs the struggling inner-city ministry named the Second Chance. He's dealing with helping prostitutes, drug addicts and the homeless, and all the charity donations aren't enough; these people need emotional support to stand on their feet, not hand outs. When Ethan lets him tell off the congregation (on television, no less), the "Rock Star" minister is sent to work with Jake at the Second Chance. Of course the pair are bound to butt heads at first, but the deeply felt humanity they share is just as bound to manifest sooner or later. Director Steven Tyler mixes some good urban grit and hope into the formula and it's refreshing that no one character is ...

Cinema giants Jean-Pierre Melville (THE WAGES OF FEAR) and Jean Cocteau (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) collaborated to create LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES, a stunning portrait of surreal perversion and narcissism based on Cocteau's novel of the same name. When teenage Paul, the fragile protagonist, is mysteriously felled by a powerful snowball thrown by his dastardly and handsome idol, Dargelos, he returns home to recooperate under the unwilling care of his irascible sister, Elisabeth. The two share a bedroom in the home of their ailing mother. Within the their bedroom, the siblings have constructed a private universe of erotically charged jokes, elaborate rituals, and coded behavior sealing them off from the rest of the world. When their mother unexpectedly dies Paul and Elisabeth spiral even further into their own world, with Paul's fragile condition keeping him from returning to school. The incestuous undertones and poisonous ambiance are further complicated as Paul and Elisabeth are joined first by Paul's friend Gerard, who is obsessed with ...

But when he finds himself falling in love with Robert (James Marks), the new tenant in his mother's apartment building, Daniel learns how important it is and how rewarding it can be to be true to yourself. THE TRIP: This movie tells the story of Alan, an aspiring conservative journalist, and Tommy, a free-spirited gay-rights advocate.
