Dana Andrews stars. A cop accidentally kills murder suspect and decides to pin the murder on a known racketeer. Otto Preminger's follow-up to his massively successful LAURA, WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS is a film noir set in postwar New York, where corruption and violence run rampant. Based on a novel by William L. Stuart, the atmospheric film stars Dana Andrews as Sergeant Mark Dixon, a detective whose brutal tactics have landed him in hot water with his superiors. When he accidentally kills a murder suspect, he tries to divert suspicion from himself and blame the death on his nemesis, crime boss Tommy Scalese (Gary Merrill, ALL ABOUT EVE), whom Dixon is obsessed with taking down. He is close to achieving his goal when he becomes involved with the dead man's wife, the beautiful Morgan Taylor (Gene Tierney, LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN, LAURA), which suddenly changes everything. $29.49 Three more essential episodes of the cult British television series THE PRISONER are included in this collector's pack. The brainchild of director-actor Patrick McGoohan, the series combines elements of science fiction, action, and spy drama in an extremely intelligent and original way. In these 3 episodes, McGoohan--as a secret agent who is being held captive in a hi-tech island hideaway--continues to try and find ways to escape.

Where The Sidewalk Ends film
$9.85 Hollywood is littered with stories of aborted attempts at moviemaking, with many directors finding themselves unceremoniously ousted from a project when a studio gets cold feet and rejects their work. Writer-director Paul Schrader (AUTO FOCUS) found himself in this position when he completed filming on a prequel to 1973's THE EXORCIST in 2004. With Renny Harlin replacing Schrader in the director's chair, then reshooting the movie in its entirety, it seemed Schrader's vision would be forever shelved alongside countless other terminated projects. However, 2005 saw a remarkable turn of events, as Warner Bros allowed Schrader's version of the film to be released under the name DOMINION: PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST.
Like Harlin's film, Stellan Skarsgard plays a young Father Lankester Merrin. Traveling to East Africa, Merrin hopes to forget the horrific events of World War II, and repair his tattered beliefs, which have significantly lapsed following the gruesome battles he unfortunately witnessed. Once there, the dejected priest runs into a team of archaeologists, who are unearthing a buried church which appears to have been concealed under the African landscape for several centuries. As Merrin helps the team with their discoveries, some brutal and bloody events ...

Where The Sidewalk Ends DVD
$11.35 One of the many challenges of documentary filmmaking can often be how to present shocking or outrageous events without sensationalizing them. With ZOO, film writers Robinson Devor and Charles Mudede certainly had their work cut out for them. In 2006, a news story broke that a man in Washington state had died while trying to have sex with a horse. Using a rather unconventional documentary style, Devor and Mudede decided to explore the incident, and delve into the secretive subculture of zoophilia. Foregoing the traditional interview techniques generally favored in documentaries, the film is composed almost entirely of scene reenactment, with actors standing in for all of the key players. The real people involved would lend only their taped voices, as they did not wish for their true identities to be revealed.
Visually, the film is quite beautiful, and flows across the screen with a dreamy, ethereal quality. Scenes are often shaded in deep violets and midnight blues, and the many shadowed, slow motion shots move as though underwater. Contrary to what one might expect, it is devoid of graphic imagery (save for one extremely brief scene), and anyone interested for shock value alone will be greatly disappointed. However, those wishing to learn more about the psychology of zoophilia will also find the film lacking. Rather than educate its audience, the film's sole purpose seems to be to humanize the people involved, and to ask for empathy. This is a noble enough goal, and one that the filmmakers achieve to a certain degree. However, by the film's end, the world of zoophiliacs still feels cloaked in mystery. If their lives are lived in shadow, ZOO doesn't do much in the way of shedding any light. Viewers will doubtless be stirred emotionally by the film, but they are likely to walk away with more questions than answers.
ZOO is an ...
