Swedish Erotica/T.N.T. (Heavy Metal): Tony Harnell (vocals); Ronni Le Tekro (guitar); Diesel Dahl (drums).
On T.N.T.'s 2004 offering, My Religion, this Norway-by-way-of-California band quit their late-'90s attempt to toughen up their melodic/pop-metal style, and embraced the sound of the big '80s once more. And on their next release, 2005's All the Way to the Sun, singer Tony Harnell and guitarist Ronni Le Tekro are back to their old tricks once more. How T.N.T. didn't challenge such MTV darlings as Winger back in the late '80s remains a mystery, as the group mined the same sonic well, and continue to do so to this day, as evidenced by such vintage pop-metal-sounding tracks as "Too Late," "Me & I," and "Sometimes." Despite it sounding like T.N.T. rediscovered the formula to pen tracks that sounded plucked right out of their late-'80s prime (circa 1987's Tell No Tales), All the Way to the Sun would prove to be Harnell's last studio album with the band, as he would exit after the album's supporting tour (and be replaced by Tony Mills on subsequent releases). ~ Greg Prato

For metalheads, the early to mid-2000s went down in history as a time in which the United States dominated metalcore, hardcore, and screamo while Europe dominated the death metal/black metal field as well as the power metal revival/progressive metal scene. And Europe was equally dominant when it came to goth metal; if, in the early to mid-2000s, one came across a metal band that had strong goth leanings, a definite Lacuna Coil influence, and a female lead singer with an ethereal vocal style, it wasn't necessarily a European band but was likely a European band. A rich social and political history dating back to the 1500’s, breathtaking Victorian architecture, 32 miles of beach, the sweet smell of salt air, the music of the surf, afternoons on a sun drenched beach, sultry summer evenings, lazy rainy mornings, foggy winter nights, sophisticated and elegant yet relaxed and calm, I could go on but words don’t really do the island justice. You can find pictures of Galveston and links to other sites on my webpage (below left) but pictures aren’t really enough either. There is a spirit, a mood about the island that I find quite healing. Try as I might, I can’t explain this feeling in words. It is my hope to capture it with music and I suspect I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to capture its complexities. This first release, Sirens and Storms, is actually more about my rediscovery of Galveston and my longing to return than a true reflection of the island.
