Although Miles Davis didn't die until 1991, 1985's YOU'RE UNDER ARREST is one of his last releases. True to his sometimes deliberately antagonistic form, it's also one of his most controversial albums. YOU'RE UNDER ARREST includes a remarkable amount of funk, soul, and even pop influences, complete with a vocal interlude by Sting. While this angered a number of jazz purists, it suits Miles, who had almost single-handedly established jazz-rock as a viable form with IN A SILENT WAY and BITCHES BREW.
More to the point, it's simply impossible to argue with the album's contents. The two-part "Katia" is one of Miles' finest late compositions, and his cover of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" reveals unseen depths to the tune. The masterpiece, however, is a spellbinding reinterpretation of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time," which the trumpeter recreates into something entirely new.
Recorded at Record Plant Studios, New York, New York.

You're Under Arrest album
$15.65 "The Chairman of the Board" died in May of 1998, yet his music sounds as vital and relevant today as ever. Released on the 10th anniversary of his death--in coordination with a slew of DVD releases commemorating the singer's acting career as well as an official U.S. Postal Service stamp--NOTHING BUT THE BEST provides an excellent look at Sinatra's tenure at the Reprise label. Among the album's 22 vintage cuts are classics such as "The Way You Look Tonight," "Luck Be a Lady," "Strangers in the Night," and "My Way." The disc also contains a bonus track in the previously unreleased recording of "Body and Soul." Diehard Sinatra fans will likely own most of this material, ...
| | Return To Forever Returns - Live At Montreux 2008 DVD (2008) DTS Sound
You're Under Arrest CD music
$12.05 After a quarter century apart, the core line-up of the jazz quartet Return to Forever--Chick Corea, Lenny White, Stanley Clark, and Al Di Meola--reunited for a world tour in 2008. This remarkable concert film captures the foursome on stage at Montreux, playing bewitching renditions of "Vulcan Worlds," "Sorceress," "Romantic Warrior," and many others.
The band was at the forefront of jazz/rock fusion in the 70s and were formed by a former Miles Davis sideman, in this case the great Chick Corea. Return To Forever hit ...
| | Thelonious Monk At Carnegie Hall CD (2005)
You're Under Arrest music CDs
$12.89 On paper it seems as if such titanic and distinctive musical personalities as Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane might not mix very well, but this stellar set, recorded live at Carnegie Hall in 1957, plays almost like a blissful extended duet between the two (with support from a sensitive yet hard-swinging bassist and drummer). The opener, "Monk's Mood," for example, features the composer/pianist's typically brilliant, idiosyncratic playing, while Coltrane floats over the top in the most lyrical of modes. Monk, in particular, is a master of tension-and-release tunefulness, creating rhythmic and harmonic intricacies that seem to spur Coltrane's saxophone exploration to new heights.
The quartet shines on ballads ("Sweet and Lovely"), but the leaders display their best chemistry on the Monk's ...

| | Roberta Gambarini So In Love CD (2009)
You're Under Arrest CD music
$12.35 It seems incredible that Roberta Gambarini didn't win the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition but she was new to the U.S., having just arrived from her native Italy. But with each new release, she has demonstrated that she is easily the most accomplished vocalist of the competitors for the prize. Pianist Hank Jones, who knows a thing or two about great singers, refers to her as the "greatest vocalist to come along in the past 60 years." On 2009's SO IN LOVE, with a rhythm section rotating among three talented up-and-coming pianists (Tamir Hendeman, Eric Gunnison, and Gerald Clayton), Gambarini works her magic with familiar standards and a few unexpected choices. She has a love of Cole Porter's songs, opening with a touching, richly textured version ...

| | Bon Jovi This Left Feels Right: Greatest Hits CD (2003)
You're Under Arrest songs
$33.25 This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
This Japanese import edition contains three bonus live tracks "The Distance," "Have a Little Faith in Me," and "Joey."
Conceived during the Japanese leg of the BOUNCE tour, THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT went from mere acoustic re-workings of Bon Jovi hits to an entirely restructured approach, aided by producer Patrick Leonard and turned around in a mere 23 days. The results are a dozen songs literally reborn as practically brand new compositions, thanks to the use of some unique arrangements.
"Livin' On a Prayer" gets basted with ethereal keyboard washes by David Bryan, while Leonard's actress wife, Olivia d'Abo, hops aboard and turns the song into a heartfelt duet. Plugged-in anthem "Keep the Faith" gets a nice twist, as its hard-pounding tempo is cast aside in favor of a subtle and soulful delivery, while Tico Torres' time keeping and the band's overall approach to "Wanted Dead or Alive" make it sound like a LED ZEPPELIN III outtake. ...

| | Hazeltine, David & George Mraz Trio Manhattan (2006)
You're Under Arrest songs
$20.15 This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
All too often, piano trios feature the pianist extensively, with bassist and drummer relegated to supporting roles and occasional brief solos. That's hardly the case with this studio session, as even though the trio is billed under the names of David Hazeltine and George Mraz, with Billy Drummond, the date comes off like a working partnership with everyone getting lots of space to play. Hazeltine has been a workhorse in New York City, recording a number of CDs for various labels and frequently appearing as a sideman, while Mraz is one of the top bassists to emerge during the late '60s. Likewise, Drummond has himself been a very in-demand player. The interaction between the musicians is superb throughout the date, with fresh treatments of chestnuts like "Out of This World" and "Alone Together" that swing like mad. Drummond sticks to brushes for most of the session, except for Hazeltine's easygoing ...
