"Why did M.O.P. sign a deal with Roc-A-Fella?" is some food for thought from a Freddie Foxxx freestyle. For worse or better, M.O.P.'s Roc-A-Fella deal went sour before a full studio album came into fruition. And while their 2005 effort, THE ST. MARXMEN, features a number of more radio-friendly studio cuts and collaborations from their short-lived tenure with Jay-Z's label, longtime fans will be pleased to hear that the album is, on the whole, the same rowdy, "banned from TV" sound that has been the Brownville duo's signature since "How About Some Hardcore." Of particular note is "Put It in the Air," on which Fizzy Womack and Lil Fame deliver some of their most ferocious verses in years over a pounding, Run DMC-esque boom-bap beat.
Additional personnel: Foxx , Inf, Teflon, Wyclef Jean (rap vocals); ODB.

Dope, BUT too many homosexual lifestyle comments MOP's underground success cannot be denied, and they keep their string alive with the release of St. Marxmen. They do not stray from the MOP formula on this one, if it ain't broke don't fix. One thing did strike me odd on this though...all the references Billy Danze and Fizzy Womack make to being VERY much homosexual together. You'd never guess these to so-called "gangsta" rappers, are gay, and if they are, you certainly wouldn't think they'd let on that they were. Apparently they used this release as their concerted effort to "come out" to the whole world. With song titles like; Big Penis Game, Anal Pain, Poop Shoots (ft. Gay-Z)...the average MOP listener will be taken by surprise, but as you begin listening to the lyrics, you really get stunned by their all-around gayness. Take this line for example: "We gay-ngsta/me 'n Fizzy/every time he fingers my a-hole/you know my head gets dizzy". I'll admit, this is not what the hip hop world expected from MOP, but somehow they pull it off, and there certainly isn't a lack of dope beats. Check it out. BROWNSVILLE BANGA M.O.P is one of my all time favorite groups. This album falls short though. It's production is sick Fizzy Womack leading the way with help from DR Period, Nottz, Laze E, 9th Wonder(sick produecer) and what is a M.O.P album without Primo blessing it. Key note bangas....HIP HOP COPS fea. Wyclef, INSTIGATOR, G-BOY STANCE, TAKE A MINUTE,PUT IT IN THE AIR fea. Jay-Z and my favorite track on the album POP SHOTS fea. the late Ol' Dirty Bastard, produced by DJ Premier. If you're an M.O.P fan to the death you already copped it but if you're thinkign about it...do it. The songs that I listed are worth the money. $12.35 2005's GRANDMASTERS collaboration between former Cypress Hill DJ Muggs and the Wu-Tang Clan's GZA precipitated the release of this instrumentals-only version. Working in sonic environments closer to that of Wu producer RZA than to the stoned grooves that made his work famous, GRANDMASTERS (INSTRUMENTALS) is rife with stern and ponderous rhythms marked by clean, clipped drum samples; an ominous drone to set the key; and various stabs of single guitar or piano notes to color the tracks.
For those of us who couldn't get enough of the 2005 DJ Muggs and Genius collaboration project, GRANDMASTERS, the remix album is here. While the tracklist and lyrics are identical to the first (with the exception of one new ...

$17.79 ZERFAS is the self-titled album from the 1970s psychedelic rock band from Indiana. Originally self-released, and long difficult to obtain, this British issue marks the album's first appearance on CD.
Zerfas' only and very obscure album is uneven but fairly worthy just-post-psychedelia, and actually one of the better (and certainly least heralded) attempts to tap into a late-'60s Beatles sort of vibe, albeit one that has a sadder tinge than the original article. As with all such efforts, be aware right away that this is a stylistic and not a qualitative comparison; it's not nearly on the level of the White Album, and actually not all of the cuts are heavily Beatles-influenced. ...
| | Doobie Brothers Captain & Me CD (1973) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
St. Marxmen
$29.25 CAPTAIN AND ME found the Doobie Brothers boasting three strong vocalists, two expert guitarists, and a brace of rhythmic drummers, refining a sound that crossed AM pop-rock, soul-tinged R&B, country-folk, jazzy gospel, and strong musicianship. The result burst the band into national prominence. Traces of Moby Grape, whom the group adored, can be heard in their vibrant harmonies and flowing hooklines, but THE CAPTAIN AND ME showed an act of singular purpose.
The effervescent urgency propelling the percolating groover "Long Train Running" and the leaner rock of "China Grove" into the US singles charts is apparent on every selection. In addition to the band's gorgeous layered harmonies and twin guitar arpeggios, THE CAPTAIN AND ME features the band's strongest and most consistent set of ...
| | That'll Flat Git It! Vol. 23 CD (2006) (Import) Germany
St. Marxmen
$22.55 It's been widely reported that Mitch Miller, Columbia Records' pop music chief in the '50s, was no friend of rock & roll, but thankfully the folks at the label's Nashville offices (in particular producer Don Law) had a higher hip factor, and this installment in Bear Family's ongoing That'll Flat Git It! series unearths thirty quality rockabilly and rockin' country sides from Columbia's vaults. Ronnie Self's feral "You're So Right for Me" kicks things off in frantic style, and while that's easily the wildest side here, there's plenty more solid rock action, including Self's "Big Blon' Baby," three numbers from the Collins Kids, Billy Brown's "Flip Out" and "Meet Me in the Alley Sally," Bobby Lord's "High Voltage" and the hilarious "Bump!" from Jay Cee Hill. Bear Family have also included some up-tempo hillbilly action here, including a pair of outstanding Johnny Horton cuts, two from Marty Robbins, Carl Story's defiant "What a Line" and Mel Tillis' rare stab at the rockin' stuff, "Teenage Wedding." The set also features the rollicking "Susie's House" from John D. Loudermilk, who would later become a top songwriter, and "Boom Boom Baby" and "Well, Don't You Know" from Billy "Crash" Craddock, who ...
