Though there are plenty of solid Patti LaBelle anthologies on the market, GOLD is undoubtedly one of the best. Consisting of two discs, GOLD covers the entire spectrum of LaBelle's career (and it's been an impressive one), reaching all the way back to her work with the Bluebelles in the 1960s, her hits with the group LaBelle in the '70s (including, naturally, the disco cornerstone "Lady Marmalade"), and continuing through all aspects of her solo career (which spans from the late-'70s well into the 2000s). Through it all, of course, is LaBelle's mighty voice, which drips with gospel-inflected soul, sass, and pure sweetness. Something like the umpteenth Patti LaBelle anthology -- roughly the tenth to be released in the 2000s alone -- Gold is a two-disc compilation that works in some of the singer's hits with the Bluebelles ("Down the Aisle," "I'm Still Waiting," "Over the Rainbow") and LaBelle ("Lady Marmalade," "What Can I Do for You," "Isn't It a Shame") while featuring an impressive run of charting solo singles that spans four decades, from 1977's "Joy to Have Your Love" through 2004's "New Day." Due to its breadth and straightforward approach, Gold is one of the best introductions to Patti LaBelle's career that's available. ~ Andy Kellman Purchase Gold CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Johnny Otis 1945-1947 CD (2002)

| | Alexis Korner Kornerstoned: Anthology 1958-1983 CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
Gold
$24.79 Gravel-voiced Alexis Korner is arguably the most important figure in the history of British blues - the inspiration for several generations of star musicians, from The Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin & beyond. This first-ever full-career retrospective spans everything from mid-50s skiffle to his final blues outings, via groundbreaking 60s R&B & his pop hits with CCs in the 70s. Two CD set. Castle. 2005.
While MUSICALLY RICH...AND FAMOUS documents the second half of British blues godfather Alexis Korner's career, KORNERSTONED adopts a more comprehensive approach, following the pioneering singer/guitarist from the very beginning of his musical life, all the way through every subsequent phase of his development. So we get not only his mid-1960s work with burgeoning blues-rock giants like Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott, but also his `50s skiffle recordings (basically the British version of jug-band music) with the Ken Colyer band and his own skiffle group, and even an ...
| | B B King Mr. Blues/Confessin' The Blues CD (2005) (Import) Remastered; United Kingdom
Gold
$18.79 This 2-on-1 features B.B.'s 1963 & 1965 albums, tracks include 'On My Word Of Honor', 'I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water' & 'World Of Trouble'. Beat Goes. 2005.
2 LP's on 1 CD: MR. BLUES (1963)/CONFESSIN' THE BLUES (1965). Personnel: B.B. King (vocals, guitar). Audio Remasterer: Andrew Thompson . Liner Note Authors: Jim Aylward; Tony Russell. Photographer: James J. Kreigsmann. Arrangers: Teachco Wilshire; Maxwell Street Jimmy Davis ; Belford Hendricks. This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was a haphazard start for King with the contents taken from three different recording sessions in a 13-month period (March 1, 1962 through April 11, 1963). Based ...
| | Stephanie Mills Gold CDs (2006) Remastered
Gold
$14.89 Personnel: Stephanie Mills (vocals); Robert Brookins, Teddy Pendergrass, Peggy Blue (vocals). Audio Remixers: David Morales; Cassandra Mills; Louis Silas, Jr. Liner Note Author: David Nathan. Arranger: Vassal Benford. Broadway performer and R&B and gospel chanteuse Stephanie Mills's career began in the mid-1970s when she starred as Dorothy in the theatrical production of THE WIZ. Though she's most closely identified with 1980s dance music, this two-CD compilation collects her numerous international hits from over three decades. Her disco smash "Never Knew Love Like This Before" and her soulful reading of the ballad "If I Were Your Woman" demonstrate her artistic range, while tracks like THE WIZ's "Home" acknowledge her theatrical roots. When you've released over a dozen charting albums and have had those albums whittled into nearly as many single-disc anthologies, the necessity for a more thorough double-disc anthology is obvious. Stephanie Mills' Gold is wholly ...

| | LJ Sho-Nuff CD (2003)
Gold
$16.45 The two college students who make up LJ - Lou Harris and John Harden - have only been singing together seriously for about a year, but have already impressed national industry insiders with their unique sound and cutting edge writting skills, which relies heavily on their Southern roots. Lou grew up in Montgomery, AL., and John in Milledgeville, GA. They both have made their home in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up, the duo sang in church choirs, with high school amature acts, and in living room sing-alongs with their respective families. But by the time they met up at Albany State University, where both played on the basketball team, they were dreaming not of musical careers, but NBA glory. That was not to be. Teammates and friends who listened to them casually harmonize urged them to work on their obvious talent. The two friends started thinking, and soon made a pact: "We'll give it a year. ...
