Chubby Rocks! You listen and you say, "Why is this guy so under-rated? Why isn't he in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? How has the magnitude of the twist been so overlooked?" Cameo-Parkway at last has released the original recordings and I'm so glad of that. By Cay (Buffalo, NY)
A Collectors CD Overall I found this to be a valuable addition to my collection of original 1950s & `60s UK hit single recordings. The only reservations I have is that "Let`s Twist Again" does not have the drive and enthuiasm demonstrated on the other tracks or the original vinyl single. By james147 (Ormskirk UK)
Chubbu Checker King of the Twist King of the Twist is a good description. The tracks all were very good dance tracks. He did chart with five other songs which weren't featured and I don't know why? Nearly a five star rating. By jjones731 (Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 4JN, UK)

Bobby Rydell Cameo Parkway 1959-1964: The Best Of Bobby Rydell CD (2005) Top Seller
Best of Chubby Checker: Cameo Parkway 1959-1963 CD music Collecting recordings from throughout the first five years of early-1960s heartthrob Bobby Rydell's career, this compilation features his first hits, like the Doc Pomus composition "I Dig Girls," standards like "That Old Black Magic," a wide variety of Brill Building classics like "The Third House (In From the Right)," and one early Lennon and McCartney composition, "A World Without Love." Significantly, Rydell's version of the latter song lost out to Peter and Gordon's British Invasion hit--the onetime teen idol was one of many U.S. pop stars supplanted by Beatlemania.

? & The Mysterians Best of ? & the Mysterians: Cameo Parkway 1966-1967 CD (2005)
Best of Chubby Checker: Cameo Parkway 1959-1963 buy CD music Though most people remember ? & the Mysterians solely for their one enduring hit, "96 Tears," the frat-band staple that mixed garage rock with Tex-Mex via a monomaniacal organ riff, they actually laid down plenty of other memorable tracks in their initial lifespan. Most, including the original version of their hit, were, incredibly, unavailable on CD for decades making this 2005 reissue of the band's Cameo-Parkway sides something of a monumental occasion for garage rock collectors. The Mysterians are in their prime here ably mixing blues, soul, and teeth-baring rockers with rough-and-ready aplomb, and the inclusion of a few never-before-heard tracks (including an alternate version of "96 Tears") makes this sharply assembled anthology an absolute must for fans of the genre.

Orlons Best of the Orlons Cameo Parkway 1961-1966 CD (2005)
Best of Chubby Checker: Cameo Parkway 1959-1963 songs This installment in the spate of releases showcasing Philadelphia's Cameo Parkway label focuses on the Orlons, a three-woman, one-man quartet that blended soulful doo-wop and R&B in the manner of contemporaries like the Shirelles and the early Miracles. The Orlons offered up several playful, rhythm-driven dance songs ("The Wah-Watusi"), but they are at their best on uptempo pop like "Don't Hang Up" and dramatic ballads like "The Conservative", which let lead vocalist Rosetta Highwater shine. Remastered sound and fine liner notes make this release a treasure for fans of doo-wop and R&B from the early '60s.

Tymes Best of 1963-1964 CD (2005)
Best of Chubby Checker: Cameo Parkway 1959-1963 album for sale This collection of romantic early 1960s pop, recorded around the time of the Tymes' first hit, the timeless "So Much in Love," captures the vocal group (which was to continue its career well into the next millennium) in its first flush of success. It's a snapshot of pop history from the period immediately before the Beatles' first American tour, when sophisticated pop arrangements held sway, and songwriting formulas hadn't changed in a generation. Elegant doo-wop versions of Johnny Mathis' "Wonderful! Wonderful!" and the pop standard "Stranger in Paradise" are highlights of the group's ballad-oriented oeuvre.

Dee Dee Sharp Best of Dee Dee Sharp 1962-1966 CD (2005)
Best of Chubby Checker: Cameo Parkway 1959-1963 CD music This release from the Cameo-Parkway catalogue generously collects the output of Dee Dee Sharp, the artist behind "Mashed Potato Time," one of the biggest dance hits of the early 1960s. In the mold of the girl-group pop of the era, Sharp churned out a remarkable number of infectious tunes, which she delivered in a bright, soulful voice. Twenty-four of those are collected here, including her mid-'60s work, the best of which ride sinuous, funky grooves. Other tracks boast early production work by Gamble and Huff --the duo who went on to help sculpt the legendary Philly Soul sound--and, not surprisingly, the strings and lush back-up vocals play like proto-TSOP.
Arrangers: Dave Appell; Jimmy Wisner; Kenny Gamble; Leon Huff ; Rick Kellis; Joe Renzetti ; Luther Randolph; Riley Hampton; Charles Calello.
Personnel: Dee Dee Sharp; Dave Appell, Joe Sgro, Joe Renzetti , Norman Harris (guitar); Fred Nuzzullio, Georgie Young & the Rockin 'Bocs, Buddy Savitt (saxophone); Rick Kellis, Roy Traigis, Robert Martin , Luther Randolph, Jimmy Wisner, Leon Huff (keyboards); Ronnie Baker, Joe Macho (bass instrument); Karl Chambers, Cliff Jackson & His Crazy Cats, Joe Sher (drums); Vivian Dix, Charlotte Walker, Willa Ward, Lillian Washington, Eddie Custis, Elfay Willis, Sandy Person, Jim Meeley, Cindy Scott, Raun MacKinnon, Kenny Gamble (background vocals); Roland Chambers, Bobby Eli (guitar); Dan Dailey (saxophone); Thom Bell (keyboards, background vocals); Earl Young, Bobby Gregg (drums); Chubby Checker.
