$14.99 A sequel of sorts to Chris Botti's 2006 PBS special, LIVE WITH ORCHESTRA & SPECIAL GUESTS, the September 2008 event LIVE IN BOSTON found the sartorially splendid cool jazz trumpeter accompanied by the Boston Symphony and a collection of celebrity vocalists. Also available as a DVD, the concert delivers an overview of popular music, with jazz standards like "I've Got You Under My Skin" right alongside "Ave Maria" and Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You." | | Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas CD (1965)
Psychedelic Jazz & Funky Grooves CD music
$14.19 The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates his imagination. This release has more variety than usual, for in addition to his alto playing (including a memorable unaccompanied solo on "Over the Rainbow"), Pepper switches to clarinet for the lengthy "More for Les" and interprets the ballad "These Foolish Things" on tenor. The nine-CD set is essential for Art Pepper fanatics, but those just wanting a taste of the great altoist's talents will be satisfied with this release. ~ Scott Yanow

Psychedelic Jazz & Funky Grooves album
$8.89 Principally recorded on June 19-20, 1980. Includes liner notes by George Winston.
AUTUMN was superstar new age pianist George Winston's first album to sell more than 1,000,000 copies. Listening to these spare, emotionally rich pieces, it's easy to understand why. But it's also clear what sets Winston apart from the hordes of other new age piano soloists: an insistent--occasionally even jarring--gothic sensibility that informs his music.
Like many of his albums, AUTUMN found its inspiration in the seasonal changes wrought upon the Montana landscape that Winston calls ...

Psychedelic Jazz & Funky Grooves CD music
$9.09 It's not exactly an outgrowth of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? phenomenon, nor is it quite an "unplugged" set, but this album does offer stripped-down, partially acoustic arrangements of songs better known in rock versions. On this session, Cracker members David Lowery and Johnny Hickman sing a group of familiar Cracker songs that have appeared previously on the group's albums, backed by the alternative country band Leftover Salmon. So, for example, leadoff track "Get off This" from Kerosene Hat becomes a bluegrass/reggae number, while "Eurotrash Girl," which follows, becomes a country-waltz with a plunking banjo playing along. Cracker's oddball lyrics get greater emphasis in these arrangements, but Lowery and Hickman are careful to sing them straightforwardly, ...

Psychedelic Jazz & Funky Grooves music CDs
$9.29 Like any strand of DNA, mutation is part of the course of human history. There are reactions that transform our cells, our appearance, and our souls. Mutations have yielded freaks of nature such as the elephant man and also have resulted in characteristics that have helped our species survive and thrive throughout history. One of these mutations has recently been discovered in a band called Air this Side of Caution. In parts of the EGBDF and the FACE genes, this band creates shifts in molecular and chromosomal structure. Their heritage consists of influences such as: Radiohead, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, and Jeff Buckley. With another step toward enlightenment, a new expression of mature and creative musicianship is now bursting ...
