| | Bebel Gilberto Tanto Tempo CD (2000)
L'Impasse
$13.99 Bebel Gilberto was nominated for the 2001 Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist. TANTO TEMPO was nominated for the 2001 Latin Grammy Award for Best Musica Popular Brasileira Album.
This is a collection of remixes from the TANTO TEMPO album. Remixers include Peter Kruder, Truby Trio, Rae & Christian, King Britt.
Bebel Gilberto is the daughter of Brazilian singer/guitarist Joao Gilberto. TANTO TEMPO, her debut release, brings a contemporary sheen to classic bossa novas. Acoustic accompaniment predominates, with the addition of occasional electronica, making this collection a perfect reflection of the late-20th century two-way street between traditional Brazilian bossa nova and the American producers who covet its easy, sexy sound.
Gilberto's voice is assured and steady. As with other South American singers gaining attention in the States, such as Peru's Susana Baca, she's a model of restrained passion, her phrasing subtly and sensuously caressing her music. Gilberto sings mostly in Portuguese, but performs a few songs in English, such as the dreamy "August Day Song." ...

| | Laura Pausini Resta In Ascolto CD (2004) Italian Edition
L'Impasse
$8.29 One linguistic myth is that anyone who speaks Spanish is automatically fluent in Italian; the languages are quite similar, but similar is by no means the same as identical. However, it is true that anyone who is fluent in Italian has a definite advantage
No stranger to success, Europop sensation Laura Pausini sold over 25 million albums in her first decade or so of recording, quite a feat for someone who was just turning 30 years old and had never broken into the lucrative English-language market. Yet she essentially struck out when she did try to cross over to that English-language market in 2002 with From the Inside. Put mildly, the album bombed stateside. Its qualities (and the qualities of stateside consumers) aside, it was the first full-fledged failure Pausini had experienced in a career of multi-million-selling albums and sold-out world tours. Here was someone who had sung for Pope John Paul II at Christmas and for Barbra Streisand at a birthday party, yet she couldn't sing for ordinary Americans, who just weren't interested in her melodramatic schmaltz. And so Pausini took a sizable break, perhaps the first of her whirlwind, world-conquering career. When she did finally emerge from her self-imposed silence, she returned with Escucha, her first Spanish-language ...

| | John Astin Remembrance CD (1991)
L'Impasse
$18.99 Few singer/songwriters have found commercial success in strictly new age circles, but John Astin's songs of love and surrender are finding an audience larger than the norm. His universal messages are filled with love of life and a sacred simplicity that will serve to open the hearts and ears of listeners, and his fourth effort is his most satisfying yet. Astin's tenor occupies the higher registers almost exclusively, both in tonality and aspiration. There are similarities to Michael Tomlinson, and fine musical backing with an occasional renaissance tinge. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats
A note from the artist:When Ram Dass asked his teacher Maharaji how he'd be able to carry on in his spiritual work once he'd returned to the U.S. and was no longer in his physical company, Maharaji said, "It is very simple. Just love everyone, serve everyone, and remember God." Love, serve, and remember...the simplicity and profound message contained in these three words served as the inspiration behind the song of the same name that appears on this recording "Remembrance." May this song and the other titles on this album inspire you to remember the truth of who you are and to love and serve this world from that place of remembrance. The Music of John AstinJohn Astin's music takes me to a place where inspiration and creativity flow - to a place, in other words, that's divine.--Larry Dossey, MDJohn creates a musical vehicle of awesome beauty and pure spiritual intention that delivers the listener straight to the heart. He is a gift in the truest sense of the word- one of those rare souls with the ability toreconnect us to the Divine Source.-- Joan Borysenko, PhDJohn's evocative songs are like a beautiful garland of remembrance, a musical call to awaken to ...
