| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Try This
$10.35 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping ...

Try This
$8.89 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs ...
| | Ugk Too Hard To Swallow CD (1992)
Try This
$8.99 Truth in advertising, Too Hard to Swallow is UGK before they got funked up, grinding over some minimal, hard beats that aren't as complementary to their delivery as the smoother production they would later favor. Still, thanks to members Bun B and Pimp C's ability to write memorable rhymes, the album -- which repeats some tracks from their impossible to find indie release The Southern Way -- is a winner with three mammoth singles so important to the UGK story. "Something Good" puts a crooked beat under Rufus' most popular number, "Use Me Up" tells its pissed-off tale over a Bill Withers sample, and "Pocket Full of Stones" is a classic tale of crack rocks, Cadillacs, and making bail. The mucho macho "Cramping My Style" is a fan favorite with "hump and dump" lyrics that didn't really play nice with radio, and the snide "I'm So ...
| | Keith Washington Make Time For Love CD (1991)
Try This
$7.29 Although it seems like Keith Washington was an overnight success, the truth is that he was busy many years prior trying to find his way to the music charts as an artist. Finally, that ambition has come to fruition and the result is resplendent. The Detroit native's first single was the captivating "Kissing You." The soft, mellow intro bows to a dynamic pre-hook string arrangement before returning to an affectionate chorus. The ballad stayed on the Billboard R&B charts for 20 weeks, peaking at number one. The second single was "Are You Still in Love with Me." The lyric expresses much concern and Washington conveys that message in his urgent cry; the single topped off at number 15 on the Billboard R&B charts after 14 weeks. The third release was the more romantic title track "Make Time for Love." Unlike the prior two singles, "Make Time for Love" settles into a gentle rhythm. Washington, however, exerts his energy as the song gradually builds momentum. It climaxed at 22 after 15 weeks on the charts. "When You Love Somebody" sizzles with a feverish rhythm accented by a spirited bridge and Washington's convincing delivery. This is a superb song. It only managed to crack the Top 30 at 26 after a mere 11 weeks. The production on this album is excellent, as are Washington's vocals as he utilizes his vibrato on most of the selections. It was anticipated that Washington's emergence onto the music scene was to be followed by chart dominance, but contractual problems stifled that possibility. Notwithstanding, this ...
| | Virgin Black Sombre Romantic CD (2002)
Try This
$12.59 2001 debut album by the Australian epic Gothic rock band from Adelaide. 10 tracks. The End Records. 2002.
At first glance, it's easy to dismiss Australia's Virgin Black as another contestant in the modern goth metal sweepstakes (no thanks to their corpse makeup and in-mourning attire). But, upon closer scrutiny, their album Sombre Romantic transcends most of the genre's limitations, as Virgin Black throws everything but the bidet into their macabre operettas of gloom and depression. Theirs is a complex sound (kinda like Iron Maiden molesting Enya ...

| | Psychic Emperor Communications CD (2006)

$7.89 When an image of a Danzig-horned skull is transposed to a clear CD fastened to a rubber stopper on a piece of ceramic tile, then sloppily scotch-taped to a broken plastic CD cover with a hand-written track listing, it's inevitably going to be interesting.
