These songs started life as a series of public health messages, recorded by the South African education and health organization the Philani Mothers for the benefit of their community. Remixed by the British producer Peter Raeburn, with updated added instrumentation, they've become a series of hip, funky worldbeat tracks, incorporating the fascinatingly hypnotic "Breathe Together," featuring the South African vocal legend Miriam Makeba, the loose, jazzy, "Speak For Me," and the ethereal, Latin-tinged "Milk."
Collection of songs with health and nutrition messages sung in Xhosa as a project for the township and squatter communities of Cape Town, South Africa, with gues producers Kid Loco, Zero 7, Layo & Bushwacka and Nitin Sawhney.

Having made her name as the ethereal vocalist of Vas, Azam Ali ventures forth with this shimmering solo debut. Openly influenced by Hildegard von Bingen, PORTALS OF GRACE continues Ali's long relationship with the music and stories of medieval Europe, drawing from Sephardic, Breton, and Latin sources, to name a few.
The opener, "Lasse Pour Quois," recounts the heartbreak of a 14th-century French member of a little-known order of female troubadours who roamed the continent. "O Quanta Qualia," written by the poet-heretic Peter Abelard, is apparently the only surviving composition from a hymn book he wrote for Heloise, whose father had Abelard castrated.

Happy Birthday Little Girl is a generic, but fairly pleasant, collection of singalong songs aimed at young children. Aside from "Happy Birthday to You" and the original song "My Birthday," the collection isn't really all that birthday-oriented; the rest of the album focuses on songs that lend themselves to games and activities, such as "Ring Around the Rosy," "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," and "Sally Go Round the Sun." "Five Speckled Frogs," "Old MacDonald," and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" are some of the other highlights.
