| | Alanis Morissette Collection CD Alanis Morissette Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
In 2005, Alanis Morissette celebrated the 10th anniversary of her breakthrough album, JAGGED LITTLE PILL, in grand style by both rerecording that disc in an acoustic format, and issuing the decade-spanning COLLECTION. The latter 18-track release presents a number of rarities along with many of the Canadian pop/rock singer/songwriter's hits.
Morissette's Maverick debut is well represented here by a generous handful of successful singles, most notably the fierce "You Oughta Know" and the angsty anthems "Ironic" and "Head Over Feet." Although Morissette's later (and often more adventurous) outings make less of a showing, this set does feature several intriguing non-album cuts, including the spiritually minded and heavily orchestral "Mercy" (from THE PRAYER CYCLE), the Middle Eastern-tinged "Still" (from the soundtrack to Kevin Smith's DOGMA, in which she played the embodiment of God), and a faithful version of Seal's "Crazy." Though the fan-favorite "All I Really Want" is mysteriously absent, THE COLLECTION is a commendable overview of Morissette's '95-'05 output, and its eclectic track list makes the set suitable for both fans and newcomers.

So close to perfect, it hurts! Make it 4 and 3/4 stars, because with one glaring, GLARING exception, this is one of those hits collections that comes along once in a lifetime. I love Alanis, always have. I was one of the first people in my area to know what "Jagged Litle Pill" even was, before it went on to sell a zillion copies. But back to this album...when the first tracklist came out,(it's the one you see here on CD Universe) I was super psyched becuase it had every single one of my fave Alanis songs from every one of her albums. What could be better?! The air went out in my bubble a bit when I got the CD home and saw that the tracklist not only had been re-arranged, but my ALL-TIME favorite Alanis song ever, "So Unsexy" was CUT from the disc, trimming it to 18 songs.[All the other songs you see here are present, just the order is mixed up] That said, having a bunch of soundtrack songs along with her hits is very convenient. But you can't tell me that "Mercy" was a more important inclusion than "So Unsexy". Whatever! And the new version of Seal's "Crazy" is just so awesome. Loving it!!! So, all in all, one of the best hits sets to come down the pike in a while. But why did they screw with their original tracklist?! Buyers should pick it up, but look at the the album's songs first to be sure. Submitted by Jeffrey (Dickson City, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Surprised I don't know whether the tracklisting were from the collection. But I still love this album... 5 Stars!!! Bravo!! Submitted by Nazmir Alsagoff (Negeri Sembilan, MALAYSIA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Collection album
$15.65 Alanis Morissette crashed into pop music's collective consciousness in the mid-1990s as a woman scorned, carrying loads of resentment along with her alt-pop leanings. Morissette's fourth studio album, SO-CALLED CHAOS, reveals that she has come a long way from the days of "You Oughta Know," thanks, in part, to the healing powers of love. In this case, actor Ryan Reynolds is the object of her affection, and Morissette embarks on an in-depth exploration of the various aspects of romance.
Backed by a band that includes former Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery, the Canadian singer-songwriter casts out a wide range of emotions. She goes from the playful wordplay of "Knees of My Bees," with its loops and sitar-like flourishes, to the more serious concept of forgiveness at the heart of the melancholy "This Grudge." Not surprisingly, introspection ...
| | Traffic Gold CDs (2005) Remastered
Collection CD music
$14.89 Although there are a few Traffic compilations on the market, this 2005 two-disc set, puts them to shame, with 30 essential tracks that span the British band's initial run from 1967-1974. (Core members Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi revived the Traffic name briefly in the 1990s.) From the Eastern-tinged psychedelic rock of "Paper Sun" and "Hole in My Shoe" to the R&B-leaning pop of "Something New" and the soul jam of "Dream Gerrard," all of the group's finest songs are here.
The work done between '68 and '71 is Traffic's most enduring legacy. During these years, when the ensemble wasn't breaking ...

| | Joe Gibbs Love Of The Common People: Anthology 1967-79 CDs (2001) Remastered
Collection music CDs
$13.59 LOVE OF THE COMMON PEOPLE contains digitally remastered versions of original productions by Joe Gibbs.
Recorded between 1967 & 1979. Includes liner notes by Laurence Cane-Honeysett.
This two-disc set goes a long way toward validating the career of Joe Gibbs, one of Jamaica's legendary producers. Known as much for his strongarm tactics as his abilities as a musical svengali, Gibbs and his studio were vital to the transition of Jamaican music from the freneticism of ska to the more languid, spacious beat of rocksteady. Along with Lee Perry, Coxsone Dodd, Duke Reid, and others, Gibbs moved Jamaican music from the gentle tones of mento and calypso toward the harder edge of American R&B and soul. Lyrical content changed too, reflecting the internal turmoil of a former colony groping toward independence. Most of the hits are here, delivered by some of the music's greatest stars, including Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh, Big Youth, Delroy Wilson, and a host of others. Gibb's relationship with Lee Perry was crucial to Perry's development. With Gibb, Perry learned his eye for talent and found an outlet for his ideas and songs. The first disc reflects this. Later, Erroll Thompson and Niney the Observer filled the chair that Perry abandoned, and the hits kept coming. This two-disc portrait isn't exhaustive; reducing his output to this format is analogous ...
| | Pattern Immediately CD (2001)
Collection songs
$5.89 From Oakland;Former Members Of Pee Chees,St.James Infirmary++
A superb punk rock band with wild, energetic shows, the Pattern are five guys who do a lot of flailing about while they play their instruments. They're also on the handsome side of the punk rock spectrum, and have more than their fair share of ladies in the audience. Singer Chris Appelgren is the CEO of Lookout Records, an established punk rock label out of Berkeley. His former band, the Peechees, were very much in the same vein as the Pattern. Actually, ...

| | Plastikman Closer CD (2003)
Collection music CDs
$9.85 Closer music indeed. The first Plastikman album in five years brings you so close to Richie Hawtin's mind that the listen can be discomforting. There is no major change in his sound from Consumed; Hawtin takes his mastery of minimalism and use of space a couple steps further, rarely putting dance rhythms to use. Paranoia and claustrophobia persistently fester throughout the course of these 75 grueling minutes, with little in the way of release. Adding as much suspense as the filmic, synthetic orchestrations present in a handful of the tracks are the producer's own vocals, which are disguised in a manner similar to an extortionist or stalker who wants to hide his identity over a phone line. There is, however, no doubt that this particular voice belongs to Hawtin, who examines himself in the wake of what sounds like an extremely torturous ...
