Kirk Franklin Hero CD (2005)
Alive in South Africa buy CD music Though testimonies of faith and questions of morality are still at the heart of Kirk Franklin's message, 2005's HERO represents something of a musical departure for the gospel superstar. Recorded with a full orchestra--complete with lush strings and driving horns--HERO is one of Franklin's most musically ambitious outings.
Featuring guest appearances by Stevie Wonder ("Why"), Dorinda Clark-Cole ("Hero"), and Yolanda Adams ("Afterwhile"), not to mention a song that utilizes a Tears for Fears sample ( "Let It Go"), the album offers plenty of variety, and a few surprises, in addition to its large-scale arrangements. Franklin manages to integrate these new elements perfectly into the celebratory and healing music on which he's built his career.

Fred Hammond Somethin' 'Bout Love CD (2004)
Alive in South Africa album for sale Detroit vocalist Fred Hammond has danced skillfully on that gloriously blurred line between gospel and sweet soul music for decades, whether solo or with his group Commissioned. Hammond's knack for letting the spirit resound in his vocals has earned him a well-deserved following. The energetic SOMETHIN' 'BOUT LOVE adds to his catalogue of energetic records with a slate of inspired, groove-laden odes to salvation.
Hammond is also a skillful songwriter, co-penning most of the album's tunes, including the deft, intricate single "Celebrate (He Lives)." Brian McKnight and Marvin L. Donald Lawrence I Speak Life CD (2004) Top Seller
Alive in South Africa buy CD music Donald Lawrence opens I SPEAK LIFE, his first record without the Tri-City Singers, with "Healed," a song where he delivers, in the most welcoming and relaxed tone, a universal sermon of finding recovery in a return to salvation. In the middle of the song, Lawrence unguardedly remarks "I like this part." It's that sense of openness that permeates the album, embodying the joy that makes Lawrence's gospel so markedly appealing.
This particular sense of joy has attracted, in addition to a legion of fans, many leading lights from both the inspirational and secular musical worlds to collaborate with Lawrence here. Like-minded preacher Hezekiah Walker joins Lawrence on a self-proclaimed "simple song," the funk-infused "You Covered Me." Faith Evans provides most of the vocals on the light R&B ballad "Say a Prayer," and Carl Thomas offers a more rousing presence on the hip-hop-flecked "Angels." Elsewhere, jazz notable Ramsey Lewis and R&B singer Lalah Hathaway present a lush interpretation of the skillful Lawrence composition "Don't Forget to Remember." Through it all, Lawrence pops in with observations and gospel, always earnest, always passionate, always speaking with the voice of a soul constantly seeking, yet ever at rest.

Israel & New Breed Live from Another Level CDs (2004)
Alive in South Africa songs Israel Houghton clearly feels the spirit of worship from the deepest recesses of his body and soul, a sincerity that pours out in his music. Israel founded New Breed Ministries with an undeniably affable intention, to use music to bring together peoples of different faiths and origins. Israel & New Breed are, in a sense, a religious all-star group, and its members are ministers in their own right. The passion manifested by this gathering of talent resonates throughout the group's second album, LIVE FROM ANOTHER LEVEL, a spirited, jazzy, engaging double album.
One of Houghton's other gigs is the bringing of the gospel to professional athletes as National Director of Champions for Christ. His time in that setting is reflected beautifully on the rousing "We Win," which ends with Houghton addressing the crowd in a ecclesiastical manner, equal parts Reverend Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali. The crew shows off its versatility on the very next track, the Caribbean-tinged "All Around." The right balance of party and veneration permeates LIVE FROM ANOTHER LEVEL, making for a wonderfully engaging gospel experience, even for the uninitiated.
