With his confrontational riffs on race, religion, politics, and sex, funnyman Lenny Bruce paved the way for comedians such as Sarah Silverman, Dave Chappelle, and Howard Stern, and in the process dealt a fatal blow to the "take-my-wife-please" approach to stand-up that previously dominated the form.
This landmark 1966 recording of Bruce's second-to-last performance finds the comedian at the end of his rope both mentally and physically. In the throes of heroin addiction and still furious over his conviction for obscenity, Bruce focuses on the absurdity of that trial. And as one would expect, he slays numerous sacred cows along the way. Though perhaps not as traditionally funny as his earlier performances, Bruce's stream-of-conscience delivery here is gripping, coming off more as a spoken-word performance piece than a stand-up act. By today's standards, Bruce's material is quite mild, but the storm of controversy it generated is truly a testament to the power of comedy. There is a DVD version of this performance available as well. Live: San Francisco 1966 Music Lenny Bruce Live: San Francisco 1966 Songs

Live: San Francisco 1966 album
$15.99 Includes liner notes by Mitchell Cohen, Mary Guibert and Steve Berkowitz.
Listeners shouldn't get too hung up about Jeff Buckley's bloodlines--although they're impossible to ignore. His father was Tim Buckley, one of the most poignant, enigmatic figures of the 1960s' folk scene; but young Jeff grew up with his mother and didn't even meet his father until one Easter when he was eight--two months before Tim Buckley's death. While the ecstatic, keening quality of Jeff Buckley's vocals recall the haunting timbre of his father's voice, there are also overtones of a young Robert Plant, Van Morrison, Delta blues legend Robert Johnson, Pakistani vocal master Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and something indefinable--the sound of an individual talent beginning to blossom.
On this splendid live EP, LIVE AT SIN-E, we hear Jeff Buckley transmuting, transforming and ultimately transcending his influences before an audience at a small Irish club in Manhattan's East Village. Standing there with nothing but his voice and an electric guitar, Jeff Buckley is simply mesmerizing. ...

$9.95 "What would comedy be without taboo? Fortunately for The Whitest Kids U' Know, a quintet of New York 20-somethings, there are still plenty of taboos to break, and in a series of squirmingly hilarious skits, the group riffs on date rape, domestic violence and racism, (finding) a fresh angle on even the most heavily exploited forbidden topic of Adolf Hitler." - New York Times, January 27th, 2006The Whitest Kids U’ Know have spent the last two years writing and performing a new show every week in New York City's Lower East Side. Their hard work has paid off earning them their own FUSE TV series, premiering March 20th, and their self-titled debut album, available March 6th from What Are Records? No taboo is safe from the Whitest Kids' no holds barred brand of comedic skit and song. On their self titled debut The Whitest Kids U' Know touch on everything from date rape ("We ...
