This UK version of Wildflower features two bonus acoustic tracks, 'Where Has All The Love Gone' and 'Wildflower'. Sheryl Crow is one step closer to Hall of Fame status as she shunts the established rock star's impulse to get all experimental, but instead sprawls, rambling rose-like, across the substance-spiked pop landscape she helped pioneer. Three ingredients, glistening vocals, flawless production, and catchy songs rub up against one another in all the right places. These ingredients will cause you to hold your breath on the beautiful piano ballad 'Always on Your Side'. They pop up again on the George Harrison-esque 'Where Has All the Love Gone' reminding you that Crow can reflect and reveal as convincingly as she can rock. If there is a ripple that runs through Wildflower, it's a pensive one. On 'Chances Are', she sings of being "...lost inside a daydream." The measure of her talent, ripe and reappraisal-resistant, is her ability to consistently bring us inside the bubble with her. . Universal. 2005.

U.K. edition.
CD contains 2 bonus tracks.
Originally, Sheryl Crow planned to have her follow-up to 2002's Top Ten hit C'mon, C'mon be two simultaneously released albums, announcing their autumn release at the beginning of 2005, but by the time the fall rolled around, the project had been scaled back to a single album: Wildflower. If C'mon, C'mon was a cheerful, bright record ideal for sunny summer days, Wildflower is its opposite, a warm, introspective record that's tailored for the fall. It's not dissimilar to 1998's The Globe Sessions, which felt like a somber hangover to the wonderfully weird party of her eponymous 1996 second album, but where The Globe Sessions had a weary, heartbroken feel, there's a comfortable, lived-in atmosphere and sense of genuine affection on Wildflower. Celebrity press and pre-release hype attributed this love-mad vibe to Crow's romance with cyclist Lance Armstrong -- the couple announced its engagement the same month Wildflower was released -- and there surely must be some sort of correlation between Crow's personal life and work, but anybody looking for an album explicitly about her relationship with Lance (the way that, say, Eric Benet's Hurricane is all about his divorce from Halle Berry) will be disappointed. There are certainly plenty of songs about love here, but Crow's songs are not about specific events (unless they're neo-protest songs like the lively "Live It Up"). They're open-ended, so it's easy to hear the record and never think about Armstrong. As a matter of fact, the subjects of the songs matter less than the feel of the album. It's easy to spin Wildflower a couple of times before the songs start to sink in -- unlike her other records, there's nothing here that immediately grabs your attention, they're all growers -- but the mood of the record is immediately appealing. That sustained warm, burnished, relaxed feel -- at once rootsy and upscale, modest and classy -- is reason enough to return to Wildflower to give the songs a chance to take root, and once they do, the album seems to be one of her most consistent records and one of her best. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
On her fifth studio album, singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow leaves her carefree rock tunes by the side of a winding road, traveling forward with a subdued, introspective set of songs. The result is akin to Beck's SEA CHANGE, a record that largely eschews upbeat pop in favor of quieter, more thoughtful tracks. (In fact, Beck's father, David Campbell, provides string arrangements for almost every song on WILDFLOWER.)
Although there is a notable chamber-pop feel to this 2005 album, with an orchestra present on all but one track, the strings never eclipse Crow's pensive songs, and the focus here remains on her immediately recognizable and strikingly emotive vocals. "I Know Why" opens WILDFLOWER with gentle acoustic-guitar and banjo lines, while the Eastern-tinged "Chances Are" coasts over a foundation of subtle synRolling Stone (No. 984, p.152) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...The track "Chances Are" is gorgeous...It's reminiscent of early Van Morrison and suggests new possibilities for Crow."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.98) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Her tunesmithery is still right there, sneaking in alluring dissonances..."

With their raw, organic sound, Tennessee's Kings of Leon emerged in 2003 as Southern rock for the indie-garage set, sort of a Strokes for the South. While there were hints of a new direction on their third album, BECAUSE OF THE TIMES, its follow-up, ONLY BY THE NIGHT, follows through with a near-reinvention of the Kings' sound. ONLY BY THE NIGHT could be mistaken for avant-indie cult heroes the Liars on a ...

With Kid Rock's "Only God Knows Why" playing in the background, Kid Rock's protégé Uncle Kracker poses his mentor a question: "What if I don't make it?" It's hard to believe that a musician would open his major label debut CD with inspirational career advice from Kid Rock. But Kid Rock does know a thing or two about becoming a rock icon to legions of suburban teens and porn stars. As Kid Rock's self-proclaimed best friend/DJ/backup singer/multi-platinum co-writer/sidekick thug boy, Uncle Kracker has Kid Rock's MTV-ready charisma and raunchy rock-rap fur-lined coattails to thank for the existence of this album. Maybe there is something in his native waters of Detroit, but Uncle Kracker definitely takes full advantage of the opportunity and delivers an amusing, party-ready debut CD of country, rockabilly, and hip-hop-infused rock & roll that is guaranteed to please.
Each song drips with Uncle Kracker's laid-back, white-trash, Detroit-worshiping, beer-swilling attitude. "Better Days" is a soulful, country-fried rock ode to drifting through life, ready-made for an ...

Although a respected television and radio host throughout the late '50s and '60s, Les Crane will perhaps best be noted for this long player which garnered the voice-over talent a Grammy for "best spoken word recording" in 1971. "Desiderata," however was not penned by Crane and its' origins have been the subject of much erroneously perpetuated mythology. While space prohibits an unexpurgated account, the author of the text is Indiana native Max Ehrmann (1972-1945) who, in addition to being a poet, was also a barrister. In his surviving diary, Ehrmann prefaced his version with the words "I should like, if I could, to leave a humble gift -- a bit of chaste prose that had caught up some noble moods." It was not until 1959 when the Reverend Fredrick Kates -- rector of St. Paul's Church in Baltimore, Maryland -- included "Desiderata" in a compilation of sacred devotionals gathered for his parishioners. It was here that the text was erroneously dated as being penned circa 1692 -- which was in actuality when his church was founded, rather than the date of the text. Crane's dulcet toned reading became an anthem for those wishing to perpetuate the message of peace and love that had seemingly been abandoned in the wake of the '60s. Joining the proceedings throughout this long player are an unusual gathering of noted studio musicians under the collective moniker of the "Crane Gang." These include Jim Horn (flute), Joe Porcaro (percussion), Louie Shelton (guitar), Michel Rubini (keyboards) and Emil Richards (percussion). Equally seasoned vocalists Evangeline Carmichael and Carol Carmichael lend their efforts as well -- with the former being the soloist on the title track. The long player also includes nine other original compositions -- such as "Friends" -- and adaptations of well-known poetry from Henry D. Thoreau's "Different Drummer," titled "Independence" for this release and "Wilderness" which is renamed "Nature"." The arrangements for the entire album are credited to Fred Werner who boasts a lengthy list of Broadway and cinematic works including Sail Away, Skyscraper and High Spirits. All said, Crane's Desiderata is an inspired timepiece with an ageless message, rather than the ...

Shout In The Street
GUERNICA GAZEBO Shout In The Street CD  (2004)

Wildflower
CD $14.79
An unique project featuring members of some of the most popular bands in the Northwest, "A Shout In The Street" is the product of two creative minds working under unusual circumstances. Named after a line from James Joyce's novel, "Ulysses," the album reflects quite an original musical sensibility, incorporating electronic dance elements into an acoustic rock format. As with the music of artists such as Moby, Sting, David Gray and Damien Rice, Guernica Gazebo create intelligent songs, utilizing the technology of the 21st Century, in a rich, organic setting.Recorded at various studios in Oregon and California over the course of the past two decades, the eleven songs presented on "A Shout In The Street" were originally released by singer/songwriter Lew Jones on numerous separate solo albums. Fulfilling a longtime promise, producer DJ S Curve remixed ...
Best Of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years
Best Of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years CDs  (2006)

Wildflower
CD $17.45  3.7 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
2-CD compilation of Linda Ronstadt's early work on their label. This collection will include all four of Linda's 4 solo LPs that were released from 1969 through 1974, as well as some previously unreleased studio and live tracks. This package will include the entire groundbreaking album Hand Sown.. Home Grown as well as the entire Heart Like a Wheel, generally considered to be Linda's greatest album. Also included are five previously unreleased studio recordings and concert performances. Capiyol. 2006. Personnel: Linda Ronstadt (vocals).
A two-disc set that presents four of Linda Ronstadt's earliest albums in their entirety, THE CAPITOL YEARS also takes the extra step of including a number of bonus tracks. While HAND SOWN...HOME GROWN and SILK PURSE find the young California-based singer, formerly of the Stone Poneys, working in a more straightforward country/folk vein, her 1972 self-titled record and HEART LIKE A WHEEL reveal an artist who has found her niche in the breezy, country-tinged rock of the era. (In fact, Ronstadt's backing band on her eponymous outing soon became the Eagles.)
Throughout this 46-track compilation, the honey-voiced Ronstadt showcases her interpretive skills on vibrant covers of songs by Randy Newman ('"Bet No One Ever Hurt This Bad"), Fred Neil ("The Dolphins") Johnny Cash ("I Still Miss Someone"), and James Taylor ("You Can Close Your Eyes"), to name but a few artists. Ronstadt would play genre hop-scotch in the years to come, but these four early albums are an example of some her finest, most focused efforts, and a quintessential document of the Laurel Canyon sound.
The title of Capitol's 2006 collection The Best of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years is a little misleading: this isn't a mere single-disc overview of hits; this double-disc set is a virtual complete recorded works of Ronstadt's stint at Capitol between ...
