| | Redman Whut? Thee Album CD (1992)
Binocular music CDs
$7.79 Whut? Thee Album is a terrific debut that established Redman as one of the top MCs on the East Coast. His aggressive delivery is more than hardcore enough for the streets, but Whut? is first and foremost a party record. Redman's subject matter centers around his love of funk and his equal love of pot, with some sex and violence thrown in for good measure. He's able to carry it all off with a singular sense of style, thanks to a wild sense of humor that results in some outlandish boasts, surreal threats, and hilarious left-field jokes. In "Blow Your Mind," for example, he announces, "watch me freak it in Korean!," stumbles through part of a verse, and mutters "ah, forget it"; another great moment is "Redman Meets Reggie Noble," a brief duet between himself and his own alter ego in the great Slick Rick tradition. Other offbeat highlights include the genuinely useful instructional track "How to Roll a Blunt" and the hilarious sexcapade story song "A Day With Sooperman Lover." Credit for the album's infectious vibe also has to go to producer Erick Sermon, who fills Whut? with deep, loose-limbed beats cribbed from P-Funk and Zapp. Slamming party jams like "Time 4 Sum Aksion," "Rated R," and "Watch Yo Nuggets" are the real meat and potatoes of the record, and Redman's driving, forceful ...

| | Earth, Wind, And Fire Collection: That's The Way Of The World/All 'N All/Gratitude CDs (1999)
Binocular CD music
$21.69 The Collection contains 3 separate albums: THAT'S THE WAY OF THE WORLD (1975)/ALL 'N ALL (1977)/ GRATITUDE (1975).
The Collection is a three-disc package that houses Earth, Wind & Fire's That's the Way of the World (1975), Gratitude (1975), and All 'n All (1977). These are the reissue versions released in 1999 by Columbia/Legacy, so they feature remastered sound, bonus tracks, and useful liner notes. It's baffling that the label chose to include Gratitude -- a live album -- rather than 1976's Spirit. While Gratitude is a phenomenal live album, it should be lower on a fan's priority list than another one of the group's ...

$32.85 | | Boney M Oceans Of Fantasy CD (1979) (Import) Reissue; Remastered
Binocular album
$14.45 2007 digitally remastered and expanded reissue of Boney M's fourth album, originally released in 1979, featuring one bonus track: 'My Friend Jack' . This Euro-Disco quartet were put together by producer/songwriter Frank Farian and their albums and singles were aimed directly at the dancefloors across the world. Boney M's sound featured male/female harmony vocals, a stomping Disco beat, swooping strings, funky guitar and hook-filled melodies that are still fondly remembered by millions of fans worldwide. After Boney M, Farian's next successful project was the equally popular but ill-fated Milli Vanilli. 14 tracks including 'Bahama Mama', 'Let It All Be Music' and 'Ribbons Of Blue'. Faria.
By the time Oceans of Fantasy was released in 1979, Boney M. had become a worldwide sensation thanks to Frank Farian's canny combination of bubblegum-ish pop hooks with slick disco-minded production. Oceans of Fantasy continues very much in this vein: "Gotta Go Home" mixes a wordless singalong hook, an insistent dance beat, and some exotic steel drumwork to create a reggae-styled slice of bubblegum disco, while "Bye Bye Bluebird" transforms what could have been a ballad into a bouncy pop tune by raising the tempo and adding an elastic bassline. It also boasts one of the group's finest hits in "El Lute," the sentimental tale of a freedom-fighting Spanish outlaw that is reminiscent of the ABBA classic "Fernando." However, not all the songs on Oceans of Fantasy live up to this high standard of quality: the title track boasts a lush arrangement but lacks the insistent hooks that would bring it to life, and "Bahama Mama" is cloyingly cutesy even by Boney M. standards. Another problem with the album is that its 52-minute running time is simply too long: Boney M.'s effervescent sound is the kind of music that is most effective when delivered in a short dose, and some judicious ...
