| | Balfa Brothers Play Traditional Cajun Music: Vols. 1 & 2 CD (1987)
Double Enfance music CDs
$13.59 Originally released on Swallow (6011) in 1965 and Swallow (6019) in 1974. Includes French and English translations.
If you want to go straight to the source and hear real Cajun music without any hint of crossover, look to the Balfa Brothers. Though they were a popular live attraction as early as 1948, Dewey, Will, Burke, Harry, and Rodney (with assistance from family friend Hadley Fontenot on accordion) didn't record their first LP until 1965. Their second followed a full nine years later. Both are included on this seminal Cajun disc, and the purity of the group's performances is stunning.
Theirs is an entirely acoustic sound, based on the jangling rhythm of the guitar, the sprightly tinkling of the triangle, and two wailing fiddles, alternately melancholy and joyous. Dewey Balfa, ...

| | Ravi Shankar West Meets East: Historic Shankar/Menuhin Sessions CD (1967)
Double Enfance album
$8.29 That a Western violinist should choose to pair with the illustrious Ravi Shankar is not in itself surprising. The violin was fully absorbed (and tuned much lower) by the Indian classical music establishment by the 19th century, and more recently has produced performers such as Dr. L. Subramaniam, Lalgudi Jayaraman, and the highly experimental L. Shankar. However, aside from being a highly accomplished set of recordings, the WEST MEETS EAST series--three Menuhin-Shankar collaborations that were later distilled ...

G.F.P BIOIt has been said in life many times, 'That which does not kill you makes you stronger.' These are more than just words to live by for the talented young men that call themselves G.F.P. or Gain From Pain. For this innovative group it is more important to be true to themselves than to fit into the bourgeois standards of today's hip-hop style. The three members of G.F.P. are all dynamic, energetic, versatile artists yet each member brings their own individual style. Corey 'C-Noe' Hernton and Leo 'Cleva' Grey both bring their Midwest Flava to the group hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. The home of Nelly, The St. Lunatics, and Chingy. While the third member, David 'Dave Dayz' Logan brings his east coast swagger to G.F.P. coming from Yonkers, New York. Finally settling in Hotlanta, Georgia group members 'C-Noe' and 'Cleva' continued to work at procuring a recording deal and met 'Dave Dayz' while working in Atlanta to complete their trio. Having been in the game for about 10 years each member has his own type of flavorful flow which blended together attracts a wide range of hip-hop lovers. Writing lyrics about only the rawest most realistic insights about life and dealing with 'Only what we've been through personally' says Dave Dayz. It is just one of the reasons that most people will relate to their music. Another reason is the sound of the Midwest Swing with an East Coast flair tossed with some Southern Fried Flava. On the grind since 1997, in 2004 G.F.P. came to the attention of Mr. William Bailey, CEO of Down & Dirty Records who signed them to his label. Currently working with some incredible production talent like the Compozerz (Wildstylz & DJ Freeze) the group has started to hone in on their artistic skills including writing, performing, and even producing. With songs like Major Thangs and On My Blocks, telling music ...
