Madacy's Retro '70s (as opposed to "Tomorrow's '70s") covers plenty of ground in two discs, focusing on album-oriented rock and soft rock. Just about every selection is a staple on the average "classic rock" or "lite FM" radio station, including harder-edged material (Boston's "More Than a Feeling," Toto's "Hold the Line," Argent's "Hold Your Head Up," Eddie Money's "Baby Hold On," Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me"), as well as plenty of selections that are ideal for the waiting room (Bread's "Make It with You," Gary Wright's "Dreamweaver," Ambrosia's "How Much I Feel," Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now"). ~ Andy Kellman Retro 70'S Review

| | Sue Foley Where The Action Is CD (2002)
Retro 70'S songs
$13.89 Sue Foley's seventh studio album in a decade successfully follows on the heels of 2000's terrific Love Comin' Down. Less atmospheric and harder rocking, Foley writes or co-writes all but three tracks, and proves herself as talented a composer as singer and guitar slinger. There's a bit of a Sheryl Crow feel to lots of this, but Foley stays locked in a blues vein, even on the more melodic rockers like "Baby Where Are You," "Get Yourself Together," and the mid-tempo title track. Colin Linden's hands-off production lets the songs breath, and the singer sounds loose, relaxed, and in control throughout, especially on ballads like the emotional "Let It Go." "Vertigo Blues" wades into primitive and swampy Creedence waters, aided by the album's only bass-less backing, featuring Linden on eerie, slithering ...
| | Claire Holley Dandelion CD (2003)
Retro 70'S album
$13.49 Claire Holley's fourth album, Dandelion, is the sort of record whose craft is so fine and so subtle that the music nearly gets lost in itself -- while Holley is a capable songwriter and her voice has a winning warmth and purity, by the time the 11 songs come to an end, you could have a bit of trouble recalling what most of the album sounded like. Dandelion leaves little doubt about Holley's obvious talent, and the production and arrangements (by Holley in collaboration with two of her sidemen, Steve Graham and Rob Seals) have an open and natural sound that favors the material, but the material is ultimately the problem with this album. Musically, too much of Dandelion follows a very similar path: calm midtempo folk-pop with a hint of country twang that's pleasing upon first listen but gets to be a shade monotonous over time, and her skill ...

| | Frederic Delarue Dolphins... A Message Of Love CD (2005)
Retro 70'S music CDs
$21.49 "Dolphins: A Message of Love" is quite simply one of the most beautiful albums I've heard in a long time!Frederic Delarue's third album of original instrumental works is stunning in its richness, passion, and joy. Delarue has created vibrant, inspiring music, and some tracks feature the sounds of dolphins and the ocean. I really like Delarue's first two albums, "Voyage of the Soul" and "Soaring With the Angels," but think this is by far his best work to date. "Calming" and "soothing" are words that come to mind, but the music goes beyond that, as it can be listened to many times with full attention without getting "old," and yet is very effective in the background. There aren't many albums where I thoroughly enjoy every track, but I love this one! Delarue truly composes and plays from the heart, and his sincerity and emotional depth are compelling. The CD opens with the sound of the surf, dolphin "clicks," and heavenly voices. Ambient, floating sounds set the tone of the album, creating a sense of peace and tranquility. "Ballet of Light" is playful and free, with a simple piano melody and lovely string washes. "Sincere Communion" is a gorgeous piece, again piano-based with strings, voices, and soothing ambient sounds; it almost feels like dreaming on a cloud. "Marie de la Mer" is a lovely piece that must have been inspired by the Bach/Gounod "Ave Maria." Heavenly! The first part of "Revelation" hints at a very slow Pachelbel "Canon," and evolves into a very quiet and meditative piece that tugs at the heart while soothing the mind. Other titles include "Calm In My Spirit," "Splash of Joy," and "Angels of the Sea," suggesting correctly that this music is peaceful, joyful, and deeply felt. In addition to the twelve tracks that were inspired by the dolphins, the CD includes two bonus tracks, "Dance of Love" and "Rejoice," which feature more of a "dance mix" feeling with rhythm tracks and an upbeat, fun, spirit. Sure to be on my Top 10 for 2004, "Dolphins" is very highly recommended! ***************M u s i c o f t h e M i r a c l e s ! How many encounters with providence does it take for one man to acknowledge its influence? For pianist and composer Frederic Delarue the magic number was three times. Two major auto mishaps and an encounter with like sentient beings, the dolphins. Once he listened to his spirit guides, angels and beings of light, Frederic knew what his direction in life was to be. That of a musician with a special message to impart to others and he wrote the music placed in his heart. Dolphins...A Message of Love is the result. His ...

Leaving the safety and familiarity of Tamla/Motown has seen many artists take a flight to obscurity. Gaye turned it on its head and made his most successful album for over ten years. The pivotal track is "Sexual Healing," an idea given to him by his biographer David Ritz and co-written with Odell Brown. This track alone is worth the price of the album (even though it was a single). It oozes greatness with every second and was the last great Marvin Gaye song. And for the record, he played drums, piano, organ, bells, synths and bongos. A premier voice lost to the world.
