This DVD was filmed on their sold-out 25th anniversary show at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. 17 tracks are included. Emerging from the first wave of late-1970s post-punk, the British band Killing Joke distinguished themselves with a proto-industrial sound and an infamous stage show driven by the near-psychotic antics of lead singer Jaz Coleman. XXV GATHERING! captures one of Killing Joke's trademark live performances with a 25th anniversary concert recorded at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire in February 2005, including thunderous renditions of tracks like "War Dance," "Wait," "Psyche," "Song and Dance," and "Communion."

Issued in 1994, PANDEMONIUM proved to be Killing Joke's long-awaited follow-up to 1990's EXTREMITIES, DIRT & VARIOUS REPRESSED EMOTIONS. While the earlier album was embraced as a powerful return to form for the British metal/post-punk act, PANDEMONIUM applied that outing's heavy aesthetic to a much larger canvas, giving many songs a cinematic sweep, as best evinced on Led Zeppelin-esque title track and the stomping "Millennium." In addition to marking the return of bassist/producer Martin "Youth" Glover, the record also indulges in frontman Jaz Coleman's Middle Eastern leanings, as most notably heard on the highly percussive "Communion." For those who worried that EXTREMITIES was just a one-off reunion, PANDEMONIUM reinforced the notion that Killing Joke was still committed to its signature fierce, brooding, industrial-tinged sound.
After the band's lengthiest hiatus since it was founded, Killing Joke returned in 1994 with a new/old lineup and an interesting enough new album. The studio follow-up to Killing Joke's fierce 2003 self-titled comeback album, HOSANNAS FROM THE BASEMENTS OF HELL finds the veteran U.K. industrial-rock ensemble returning to its early-1980s "primitive" sound, as clearly announced on the surging opener, "This Tribal Antidote," which showcases Geordie Walker's wire-tight guitar riffs. Although this record doesn't benefit from the rhythmic attack of Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), a guest on the aforementioned outing, drummer Ben Calvert proves to be a worthy successor, as revealed on the pummeling title track, which also shines the spotlight on frontman Jaz Coleman, who mixes guttural screams with moments of subtle melody. While HOSANNAS may not win the group many new converts, it boldly reinforces Killing Joke's apocalyptic vision and sheer sonic power.
