Just a note To correct by own mistake in a previous review...The Hitchikers Guide series of books was written by Douglas Adams, not Scott Adams. Sorry and thanks,

A wonderfully quirky movie If you're looking for amazing special effects and loud explosions, keep looking. If, however, you prefer great writing, interesting characters and bizarre situations, this is the one! The 2005 remake is very good but this is superior simply because it contains more of Scott Adams' original concepts from the book series (also recommended). "So long and thanks for all the fish." DON'T PANIC Come along...and don't forget your towel...Vintage BBC comedy, the only downfall, is that it's in the format of the individual episode's on the 'telly', and not that of a "Movie", like the VHS version, but the special features make up for it... Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy review
$9.69 Set in 1962; Produced and released in 1973.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd ...

Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy video
$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's upper ranks. Based on the novel by Richard Hooker, M*A*S*H follows a group of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital officers as they perform surgery and pass the time just miles ...

Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy DVD
$15.09 Director James Ivory brings the intrigue and guile of rival theater companies to life in JANE AUSTEN IN MANHATTAN. At Sotheby's auction house in New York, a theater producer and an ambitious off-Broadway director buy an obscure childhood play written by Jane Austen. Robert Powell stars as Pierre, an avant-garde director who becomes engaged in a heated rivalry with his former mentor and lover, traditionalist director Lilianna Zorska (Anne Baxter). While competing to produce different versions of the Austen play, the two also compete for the loyalties of a young actress, Ariadne (Sean Young in her first screen role).
The actual Jane ...
| | Stage Door DVD (1937) Full Frame; Subtitled
Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie DVD
$14.49 The Footlights Club, the primary setting for much of STAGE DOOR, is a remarkable creation. The result of a collaboration between director Gregory La Cava, screenwriter Morrie Ryskind (brought in to replace Anthony Veiller), and an outstanding group of tough, smart-talking actresses played by Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, Ann Miller, Eve Arden, and Gail Patrick, the film's club is always full of noise, as the conversations overlap and wisecracks come spinning out of the melee.
Newcomer Terry Randall (Hepburn) is different from the other women. For one thing, she has money and doesn't need a job. And she has confidence, initially rejecting fading actress Catherine Luther's (Constance Collier) offer of help, saying, "I think coaching's a waste of time. After all, acting's only common sense." Because of her attitude, the rooming house's inhabitants give her a rough time, especially her roommate, Jean (Ginger Rogers). Eventually, Terry gets an opportunity to act--at the expense of Kaye Hamilton (Andrea Leeds). Only after Jean and the others see Terry's response to Kaye's tragedy is she grudgingly accepted into the group. STAGE DOOR is an extraordinarily rich movie, graced by wonderful performances by ...
