Metal act Soldier presents SINS OF THE WARRIOR featuring 11 hard rocking tracks including "Murderous Night" and "Starhaven."
Forming in 1979, Soldier first pummeled their way into Metal consciousness when their demo Silver Screen Teaser hit the influential Sounds Heavy Metal Chart. Signing to Heavy Metal Records in 1980 Storm Of Steel appeared on the first, pivotal Heavy Metal Heroes album, an album that helped kick start the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Soldier's first single proper was 1980's 'Sheralee', also a big success in NWOBHM circles reaching number 3 in Italy and receiving loads of Radio 1 support. Heavy gigging led to much interest from major labels but unstable line-ups and a shift towards a more melodic style meant the band split disillusioned in 1983. Reforming in 2002 with original members Ian Dick (guitar) and Garry Phillips (vocals), second line-up veteran Steve Barlow (bass) and Alex Smith on drums, Soldier finally recorded the debut album that never happened. The dark riffs and powerhouse vocals remain a feature and the depth of the album's 11 tracks prove that Soldier were the great 'lost' band of the era. Heavy Metal. 2005. Sins Of The Warrior music CDs
$13.15 Why would a relatively unknown band release a best of compilation of songs that you've never heard, much less include music from an upcoming CD that hasn't been released? A little strange, right? Well, THE SQUARE EGG have announced that they're doing just that. On November 8, 2005, they will release Quite Possibly The Best Of The Square Egg, a collection of songs selected from two of their independently released albums Songs to Live By (2004), The Wooden Tongue (2004) and a preview of what's to come from their forthcoming CD, Things Change (2006). What else would you expect from the ten diverse musicians who call themselves The Square Egg?Formed in Miami in 1999, the original band consisted of a mere three members and as the band's sound evolved, so did it's size. The Square Egg, won a 2003 Miami New Times Readers Choice Award in for Best Local Group in their "Best Of Miami" issue. In 2003, now a ten piece ensemble, The Square Egg relocated to New York, believing that New York's eclectic audience was ready for their funky sound. Since relocating to New York, the band has performed at some of the city's well-known spots including S.O.B.'s, The Knitting Factory, The Five Spot, and amassed a fan base as cultural eclectic and racially mixed as the band itself. Their unique sounds stem from Mike Rens (bass player), Woody Quinn (guitarist), Jim Antonucci (saxophone), Russ Kleiner (drummer), Pete Clagett(trumpet), Rick Parker(trombone), Pat Firth (keyboards), and on lead vocals Lee assisted by background singers Kristen Maxfield and Carol Brevard-Stern.Their name is borrowed from a book entitled The Square Egg by British illustrator, Ronald Searle. The cover features an illustration of a bird is nesting it's square egg while all the other birds look on puzzled. "That's kind of how we view our music," explains Lee. "It's not confined to a specific genre and really follows its own rules." The Square Egg conveys universal ideals that challenge the listener as well as entertain and sometimes not following the rules means creating their own."We've recorded three albums with some really great music that we've sold online, at our shows and on our website, www.thesquareegg.com. We thought it would be pretty cool and actually funny to create a best of album of the music that you'd only have if you purchased the album online."Decidedly as eclectic as their name is the selection of songs on this collection. "Quite Possibly The Best Of The Square Egg is a broad spectrum of our sound and style," explains Lee. There's the social commentary on 'Whatever Happened To Crack?' and 'One Day' alongside the more straight ahead hip-hop on 'My Wooden Tongue.' ...
