JT the Bigga Figga's discoveries and former associates have earned major labels plenty of dead presidents, so a compilation that gives the man a slice of the pie is well deserved. Unfortunately, Neighborhood Superstarz smells of cash-in and not respect. Bad packaging and precious few liner notes undermine the high-quality music here, most of which, if not all, has show up on mixtapes and official releases. Superstars the Game, Juvenile, and Young Buck are featured alongside fan favorites E-40 and Daz Dillinger, plus the underappreciated Gamblaz. Despite the jumble of names, the album hangs together since most of the tracks here are unambitious club tracks, all anchored by JT's solid, West Coast style of beat building. The music's exciting enough to warrant further investigation, but the liner notes will lead you nowhere. Bay Area fanatics get a nice portable collection of some of the best collabos JT's been involved with, but trying to pass this off as new and selecting tracks based on whether or not the guest artist has a high profile is whack. ~ David Jeffries

Neighborhood Superstarz
$10.49 "Guilty Conscience" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By Duo Or Group.
"Forgot About Dre" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group. DR. DRE 2001 was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. "The Next Episode" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
"Still D.R.E." was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.
With 2001, Dr. Dre has managed to do the seemingly impossible: resurface yet again after a five-year disappearance from the rap game, and shatter all expectations. The first two tracks lull the listener into thinking this is going to be a mellow, G-funk outing, but when the piano loop and beat commence in "Still D.R.E.," it's obvious Dre is still light years ahead of the rest. The seemingly disparate styles of guest artists MC Ren, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem are all unified by Dre's singular musical vision.

| | Klaus Nomi CD (1982) Germany
Neighborhood Superstarz
$9.25 The self-titled release from German singer Klaus Nomi features 10 tracks including "Cold Song" and "Twist."
The largest retrospective of Klaus Nomi's work yet released, Essential features 20 of his definitive tracks, spanning his operatic and classical-inspired works ("Samson and Delilah [Aria]," "Cold Song"), his forays into disco ("Icurok," "Falling in Love Again"), cheeky covers ("You Don't Own Me," "Just One Look"), and the experimental tracks ("Keys of Life," "From Beyond") that make up his surprisingly diverse body of work. While each of the other Nomi best-ofs features tracks that should be here -- the Purcell aria "Death" appears on Collection and "Three Wishes" and "I Feel Love" are on Eclipsed -- Essential more or less lives up to its name and is probably worth its import price for die-hard fans. ~ Heather Phares
It only takes a quick look at the cover to get a reasonably decent idea that this isn't your typical pop album: Decked out in a grossly oversized suit and heavy theatrical makeup, Klaus Nomi is not your typical pop singer, either. Both the cover and the music within ...

| | E Jaye Brown Funky Good Time CD (2009)
Neighborhood Superstarz
$9.59 A "A Funky Good Time" was a labor of love for E. Jaye Brown. Growing up listening to blues artists such as Bobby Womack, Johnny Taylor, Brook Benton and Benny Latimore, his goal was to recapture that southern blues and R&B style. The CD is a mixture of hand-clapping, foot-stomping feel-good party songs and soulful slide guitar ballads.Born in Charleston, South Carolina, under the sign of Aries, E. Jaye has been said to be one of South Florida’s most energetic and motivational entertainers. Soon after being discharged from the Navy, E. Jaye began performing in local South Florida nightclubs, weddings and corporate events. During his career, E. Jaye worked with such greats as Sylvester Stewart, otherwise known as Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone. He was also a member of the Original Bluenotes, headed by Larry Brown, who passed away in April, 2009 and to whom E. Jaye dedicates this CD. Locally, E. Jaye has worked with Motown and Platters tribute groups. ...
