Origin & Informis Infinitas Inhumani album
$17.57 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore ...

Origin & Informis Infinitas Inhumani CD music
$10.65 After the original Stryper lineup (minus bassist Tim Gaines) reunited for 2005's somewhat alternative/nu-metal tinged REBORN, the band made a stylistic return to form with MURDER BY PRIDE. Brimming with harmonized twin guitar leads, big hair metal-approved ...
| | Atreyu Congregation Of The Damned CD (2009)
Origin & Informis Infinitas Inhumani music CDs
$11.65 On their latest effort, Atreyu come with more of the same metalcore that listeners have come to expect from the band. All of the familiar elements are in place, with the alternating screaming/soaring vocals, thundering double bass drumming, and big, crunchy riffage. The difference here is that the band seems to have mellowed out a bit, opting for a more melodic approach. Like their last album, the songs here feel somewhat restrained, like they're just dying to break free of the polished production. The intensity of SUICIDE NOTES and BUTTERFLY KISSES seems to have been put out to pasture, with the songs feeling more deliberately poppy.

| | Jimmy Cliff Many Rivers To Cross: The Best Of CD (2003) Remastered
Origin & Informis Infinitas Inhumani album
$12.65 Contains tracks recorded during Jimmy Cliff's first ten years in the music business.
There was a time when you couldn't find a decent Jimmy Cliff greatest-hits collection that covered both the storied singer's ska and reggae songs on one CD, but 2003's Many Rivers to Cross stepped into an arena filled with contenders covering essentially the same early-'60s to early-'70s era. Many Rivers distances itself from the pack with a heavy dose of ska tracks, including suspect "Hurricane Hatty," but also less well known cuts like "King of Kings," "Miss Jamaica," "Gold Digger," "You Are Never Too ...
| | Amorphis Eclipse CD (2006)
Origin & Informis Infinitas Inhumani CD music
$13.15 After forcing their eclectic but often scattered sonic experiments to extremes of self-indulgence on albums like Tuonela and Am Universum (both of which still offered the odd great song, mind you), Finnish heavy metal godfathers Amorphis found their way back to songwriting consistency and economy on 2004's acclaimed Far from the Sun. A surprisingly focused amalgam of past and present, that album marked a measured return to Amorphis' heavy metal roots after years of apparent disownment, and set the stage for yet another compelling LP in 2006's even more unapologetically metallic Eclipse. Not that either one of the records could be called a death metal slugfest, nor a complete abandonment of those not-always-stellar but still necessary forays into other progressive musical realms, but rather mature and well-balanced statements, acknowledging the style that made the band famous in the first place. New songs such as "Two Moons," "House of Sleep," and "Born from Fire" offer driving heavy rock, frequently embellished with atmospheric piano passages, psychedelic organs, and, yes, those alluring folksy melodies that first distinguished Amorphis from the extreme metal pack. New vocalist Tomi Joutsen's ...
| | Om Conference Of The Birds CD (2006)
Origin & Informis Infinitas Inhumani music CDs
$12.79 Om is the rhythm section of stoner rock wig-out band Sleep -- bassist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Haikus. There are two long cuts on this slab totaling a little over 33 minutes. While it's true that having two instruments play repetitive droning grooves over and again leaves room for little true variation, it hardly matters. Conference of the Birds has the ability to get underneath the skin of the listener and keep burrowing. There are small rests in each composition, with cosmic, acid-drenched lyrics: "traverse the Cheopian field/Rides out from the red sun high above...." Yeah, but so what. These guys have Syd Barrett's sense of efficacy -- slow, slower, slowest -- clear Sisyphean trudges toward some unholy and unseen peak that ends pretty much in the same place they began. It's in between ...
