Live: Start The Fire album
$14.55 If there was a prize for most ambitious and, at the same time, the most versatile band on the prog rock scene, then The Flower Kings would surely be the front runner for it. Since their 1994 debut, Roine Stolt "The Flower King" the Swedish progressive rockers have released a new album almost every year, often even in the form of a double CD with extended playing times and different styles. With "Adam & Eve", the band present their latest work, which more than ever represents an overflowing interface ...

| | Tangent World That We Drive Through CD (2004)
Live: Start The Fire music CDs
$15.39 The Tangent is a collaboration between British keyboardist and singer Andy Tillison and several moonlighting members of Sweden's Flower Kings. The band's overall sound is distinctly British, though, drawing heavily on the mystical Canterbury Scene of progressive rock and, equally heavily, on the sounds of 1970s jazz fusion. The world is divided into two kinds of people: those for whom this sounds like a description of heaven and those who would rather have their brains eaten by monkeys. Neither school will be surprised by anything on this album, which features dramatic vocals, inward-looking lyrics and lots of elegantly drawn-out guitar and keyboard solos, and on which the average track length is about 12 minutes. Tillison is a fine singer (who really shouldn't try to quote Burt Bacharach), and Roine Stolt is a guitarist-and-a-half ...
| | Porcupine Tree Deadwing CD (2005)
Live: Start The Fire songs
$9.75 Considering their cinematic scope, it's fitting that the songs on DEADWING were actually inspired by a film script written by Porcupine Tree mastermind Steven Wilson. Not that this should come as any surprise to longtime fans who know the UK act's reputation for churning out epic progressive rock so sonically descriptive that it's practically visual.
Porcupine Tree creates works with complex structures that do not alienate or obscure the songs themselves, pieces that are dark and psychedelic without being sinister. On the 12-minute opening title track, weighty guitar riffs and spacious synths immediately recall Nine Inch Nails, but swooping melodic changes give way to ambient passages, making it plain that this is no industrial-rock rip-off. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" begins with processed backwards guitar, building into a harmony-fueled crescendo before dropping off completely ...

| | David Bowie Never Let Me Down CD (1987) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Live: Start The Fire album
$36.99 This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Digitally remastered by Peter Mew and Nigel Reeve (1999, Abbey Road Studios, London, England).
After having spent the the mid-'80s putting on his acting shoes for Absolute Beginners and Labyrinth, Bowie returned to music by grabbing his usual henchmen Carlos Alomar and Carmine Rojas and joining forces with old schoolmate Peter Frampton. NEVER LET ME DOWN found Bowie writing or co-writing everything with the exception of Iggy Pop's "Bang Bang." Songs such as "Day-In Day-Out" and "Time Will Crawl" were perfect Bowie songs that worked opposite ends of the spectrum; the everyday reality of a struggling woman living on the periphery of society versus the ambiguity of time itself. Although the creamy synths and slick production are occasional reminders that NLMD was cut in the '80s, these flourishes work especially well on "Zeroes" and the title track. The only hint of indulgence comes in the semi-mythical "Glass Spider" and the rap duet vignette with Mickey Rourke (!) that Bowie drops into the middle of ...
