THE VERY BEST OF ROSANNE CASH does a fine job of detailing Cash's journey, from the more traditional end of things (dad Johnny's "Tennessee Flat Top Box") to classy, pop-tinged tunes ("Seven Year Ache") and moodier, more introspective singer/songwriter fare ("The Wheel," "Seventh Avenue"). Throughout, there's a bittersweet melancholy that marks Cash's sound as distinctive no matter what the style, providing a connecting thread throughout this estimable career summary.
