(1 Customer Review)
Music for a Slaughtering Tribe is the debut album from electro icon Rudy Ratzinger (aka :wumpscut:). Opener "Soylent Green" sets the tone for the album, all blistering mechanized beats and dark, distorted vocals. However, Ratzinger possesses a sense of melody and an eclectic approach that is generally absent from purveyors of this kind of music. :wumpscut:'s music, therefore, has more in common with Skinny Puppy than fellow countrymen Die Krupps. Sometimes the tracks stretch on for a little longer than is perhaps necessary, but there are enough ideas here to keep things interesting. If one can get past Ratzinger's overly serious tone, then Music for a Slaughtering Tribe has plenty to recommend it. Album highlights: "Soylent Green," the pounding "Fear in Motion," and the creepy, sample-driven "She's Dead." ~ Jim Harper

Music For A Slaughtering Tribe album
$13.89 Originally titled Bunkertor Seven, this is the second release from Wumpscut, following two years after 1993's acclaimed Music for a Slaughtering Tribe. Unlike many industrial dance acts, Wumpscut is definitely progressing, with main man Ratzinger taking cues from all forms of electronic and dance music, not just the dark and gothic stuff. Certainly the album is tinged throughout with gothic overtones, but the driving beats on songs like "Mortal Highway" are a lot more innovative than most bands of this type. As usual, the material is either fast and brutal or slow and dark, something that can grate the listener after a while, and the pretentious-sounding ethereal female vocals are a definite step back for Ratzinger, but on the whole, Bunker Gate Seven is a competent release from a man who is clearly not afraid to look ahead. ~ Jim Harper

| | Skinny Puppy Cleanse, Fold And Manipulate CD (1987)
Music For A Slaughtering Tribe album
$11.89 CLEANSE, the third album from Canada's Skinny Puppy, is chock full of everything that defines the band's ethos--extremely dense backing tracks, loads of samples, growling electronically-distorted vocals, creepy lyrics, and blunt, punctuating beats. The album features a fairly subtle division in the middle. The first half consists of slightly-faster-than-dirge monuments to decay, while the second half serenades decay with brutal, monolithic dance beats.
Skinny Puppy's best tracks focus on specific themes. "The Mourn" addresses medical experimentation. "Second Tooth" deals with military intervention. And the minor dance-floor hit "deep down Trauma Hounds" (the use of lower case is apparently important) is about destruction, both mental and environmental. However, Nivek Ogre's vocal's are often so damaged by electronic manipulation that one can be forgiven for not noticing the words. ...

Music For A Slaughtering Tribe CD music
$16.09 This Is Neo-Goth is yet another daunting three-disc package from Cleopatra, one that compiles 27 industrial-dance tracks for the first two discs and then provides a mix from adequate Hawaiian DJ RiB (aka Razed in Black, who also contributes the song "Share This Poison") for the third. It's a fair and hardly definitive selection (considering the title), including material from Orgy, Velvet Acid Christ, :wumpscut, ...

Music For A Slaughtering Tribe album
$12.69 Long-time collaborators and spouses Amy and Jason Chorney tell a tale of violent upheaval and end of days in a garden of sensual delights.Amy's songs seem completely unique and ultimately familiar at once. Sacramento's News and Review writes that Amy's "emotional, lusty vocals are paced like a jazz vocalist laced with wailing choruses of desperation."Demorama writes that Amy is a "super-hot alternababe in knee-highs playing kickass guitar licks."Maximum Ink writes that, "Jason Chorney is so fluid on bass that I swear he's playing water." Amy began playing piano, then moved to violin, playing in jazz ensembles and ...
