This film is the true story of British Army dentists, Sgt. Peter King (Kenneth Cranham) and Private Leslie Cuthbertson (Leo Bill), a wet-behind-the-ears trainee, who, in 1942, stole a bag of grenades, two revolvers, and a set of the best dental equipment that money could buy and went off to invade occupied France on their own - without permission. Derek Jacobi and Julian Glover also star. In this charmingly patriotic British comedy based on a true story, two WWII army dentists invade occupied France--all on their own. Scrawny dreamer Leslie Cuthbertson (Leo Bill) can't concentrate on battlefield dentistry lectures; rather he daydreams about becoming a combat soldier. Sergeant Peter King (Kenneth Cranham) has devoted himself to his dental corps career, and scoffs at Leslie's inability to accept his position. Everything changes, however, when the Sergeant loses a promotion. Feeling washed up, King recruits the distractible Leslie in a plan to go AWOL and destroy a German radar post. Despite their bumbling, the duo manages to make history while proving exactly how brave dentists can be.
TWO MEN WENT TO WAR feels a like a high quality made-for-television movie, with a solid cast that includes Kenneth Cranham--known primarily for his television roles--and Derek Jacobi, adding depth and humor to the narrowly drawn characters. Similar to other programs that use humor to diffuse stories from this painful period, such as HOPE AND GLORY, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, and the popular BBC sitcom DAD'S ARMY, this film provides an inspiring tale of loyalty and determination. Theatrical Release: MARCH 26, 2004 (NY/LA) Two Men Went To War Reviews: "[The film] works wonderfully....[It] might also be one of the most beautiful releases of 2004..."-- Kim Williamson, Box Office "[A] British World War II satire that is as straightforward as its title, delivering exactly what you would expect: a pleasant bit of stiff-upper-lip nostalgia with a touch of whimsy."-- Kevin Crust, Los Angeles Times

$15.45 Set in 1916 in Ireland, THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY is the story of Damien (Cillain Murphy), a young Irishman about to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. When his friend is brutally murdered for standing up to a band of British soldiers, Damien abandons his medical career and joins his brother Teddy (Padraic Delany) in the fight for freedom. Small guerrilla groups of Irish farmers begin to wage bloody attacks, forcing the government to negotiate a ceasefire. The Anglo-Irish Peace Treaty is offered, but it puts Teddy and Damien at odds. Teddy believes they should accept the treaty and try to work within the system to avoid further bloodshed, while Damien thinks they should continue to fight until they are completely free of British rule. Whereas the two brothers used to fight side by side, they now find themselves divided, and forced to choose between their familial bond and their ardent beliefs.
Murphy and Delany both give standout performances as the battling brothers. Murphy flashes his otherworldly blue eyes and conveys his character's fierce intellect, as well as the deep sadness of his struggle. Delany, for his part, tries to come off as all brawn and ...

$13.59 Director Ron Howard casts comedian Jim Carrey in the title role in this live-action adaptation of the famous Christmas tale by Dr. Seuss, giving this rendition of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS a delightfully manic spin. Carrey is virtually unrecognizable in his elaborate green makeup, but his anarchic comic touch is unmistakable. He manages to fully embody the grumpy title character, while still supplying his own comedic touches, and it is his performance that makes the film a treat for ...
