What Is Love album
$7.39 First out of the gate with a new band after the English Beat's acrimonious fracture in June 1983, General Public was the first post-punk supergroup, gathering the Beat's Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, the Specials' Horace Panter, and other veterans of the U.K. ska revival. (Mick Jones, freshly booted from the Clash, was originally announced as General Public's lead guitarist; although he left the group very early on to start up Big Audio Dynamite and doesn't appear in the album photos, his guitar does appear on nearly all of the album's ten tracks.) Frankly, All the Rage could quite easily have been the fourth English Beat album, as it's a clear continuation from 1982's Special Beat Service. The ska sounds are largely absent, replaced by a mixture of catchy Brit-pop -- someone in the group is clearly a fan of both the Beatles and Elvis Costello & the Attractions -- and occasional reggae influences. The closing track, "General Public," is a sneering putdown of British politics and the attendant old boys network, the most political song the boys had written since the days of "Stand Down Margaret" and one of their most effective reggae tunes ever, with echoes of the threatening throb of '70s classics like Culture's Two Sevens Clash. However, more of the album is along the line of the hit singles "Tenderness" (the ...

What Is Love music CDs
$12.79 KYLIE is a collection of early Kylie Minogue, bringing together some of the first and best of the Australian popsters extremely successful hits. "I Shoudl Be So Lucky," "It's No Secret," and "Look My Way."
While the production values on Kylie's debut are dated at best and the tunes are nothing but standard late-'80s Stock-Aitken-Waterman bubblegum, there are some rather endearing qualities to it. Firstly, she shows a lot more personality than the other Stock, et al. frontperson, Rick Astley. Secondly, her cuteness makes these rather vapid tracks bearable. Her cover of ...

$10.69 This two-fer from Collectables features a pair of out of print LPs by Bruce Springsteen's saxophonist Clarence Clemons: Rescue and Hero, originally issued on Columbia Records in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Highlights among the 17 tracks include the Springsteen-penned "Savin' Up" and a duet with Jackson Browne, "You're a Friend of Mine," which are pleasant, but ...

| | Erasure Abba-Esque CD (1992)
What Is Love music CDs
$5.95 It's hard to tell if this utterly delightful 1992 EP started the mid-'90s ABBA revival or merely foreshadowed it, but either way, it's Erasure's lightest, silliest, fluffiest and most immediately endearing work. Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus were master pop songwriters, and the fact that their lush, almost orchestral pop songs ...
| | Lil Blacky Big Ballin CD (2000)
What Is Love songs
$14.45 Back in the 1980s, the term "Latin hip-hop" was coined to describe freestyle singers like the Cover Girls and Nayobe. But while such artists have been influenced by the beats and rhythms of hip-hop (as well as salsa/Afro-Cuban rhythms), it's best to call their music Latin freestyle instead of Latin hip-hop because they aren't MCs -- they're dance-pop singers. Latin hip-hop in the true sense isn't Nayobe or the Cover Girls; it's Latino rappers who range from Puerto Ricans in the Big Apple (Mesanjarz of Funk, Hurricane G) to Mexican-Americans in Southern California (Kid Frost, ...

What Is Love CD music
$15.19 Having run out of ideas for clever birthday presents, I decided in the fall of my senior year of high school to learn how to play one of my mom's favorite songs on my dad's old guitar. Despite the painful outcome of that first song (regardless of what my mom might say) I really became passionate about playing the guitar and soon found myself giving hours of my day away to this small wooden box. About a year and a half later, while finishing up with my freshman year at Miami University (that's in Ohio, by the way) I began writing songs. Some three years after that, in May of '05, with my degree hot off the presses, my debut album "Leaving Myself Behind" was released."Leaving Myself Behind" is filled with real-life songs from ...
