As a member of the massively influential recording teams the Neptunes and N.E.R.D., Pharrell Williams slowly made a name for himself in the late 1990s and early 2000s as one of the hottest producers on the scene. IN MY MIND, from 2006, is the artist's first full-length solo album, and it brims with Pharrell's trademark production flourishes and cross-genre sampling.
The overall feel of IN MY MIND falls somewhere between hip-hop and urban contemporary R&B, whether on the spare, electro-funk beats of "Keep It Playa" or the smooth, seductive groove of "Baby." A figure as in-demand as Pharrell can get just about any guest he wants, and the list for IN MY MIND is an impressive one: Slim Thug, Nelly, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, and Gwen Stefani, all of whom were Pharrell clients at one point or another, make appearances. The artist's own vocals and MC skills aren't quite equal to his expertise behind the boards, but the shortcoming is easy enough to forgive, thanks to the album's carefully constructed, dazzling sonic treats.

In My Mind album
$8.99 MY NAME IS JOE was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and "I Wanna Know" was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Packed with songs produced by such talents as ALLSTAR ("Table For Two"), She'kspere ("Get Crunk Tonight") and Teddy Riley ("Stutter"), MY NAME IS JOE showcases Joe's remarkable dynamic range and delivery. The singer's third album delivers such superb, memorable songs as "I Wanna Know," and "I Believe in You," another song produced by ALLSTAR, this one featuring 'N Sync.
One of the most respected, sought-after performers in R&B, Joe has little competition among his peers. MY NAME IS JOE is one of those rare albums where an artist exceeds his audience's expectations.

| | Trina Da Baddest BH CD (2000)
In My Mind CD music
$8.65 Rapper Trina hopes to pick up where Lil' Kim, Da Brat, and a host of other potty-mouthed hardcore gals left off, rhyming about sex and her ability to go at it all night and her quest to find a man willing to do the same for her. By the end of her debut album, it all gets a bit monotonous. Only so many sleazy sex rhymes are tolerable before they become weary. Da Baddest Bitch is at its best when Trina steps out of the gutter and cops a Miami bass beat aimed more toward the dancefloor than the bedroom. The title track and "Off Glass," as well as guest performances from Trick Daddy, Twista, and J-Shin, keep the momentum relatively steady. ...
| | Usher 8701 CD (2001)
In My Mind music CDs
$9.59 "U Remind Me" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
"U Don't Have To Call" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
R&B mack daddy Usher puts a lot of himself into 8701; that's apparent even from the title itself, which represents the year Usher began exploring the world of music ('87) and the place where music brought him by the time of this recording ('01). He starts thing out in grand style with the romantic "U Remind Me." "I Don't Know" takes a hip-hop turn with a contribution from P. Diddy (that's Puff Daddy for those of you arriving late), but Usher is quick to point out that he's strictly about partying and loving, not about thug life. While there are some amped-up, percolating tunes that make good use of Usher's high energy ("I Can't Let U Go"), he really hits his stride when he falls into the familiar position of heartthrob/crooner. His sensual cooing, breathy tone, and smooth-as-silk ...

| | Ne-Yo Year Of The Gentleman CD (2008)
In My Mind CD music
$10.85 The R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and all-around hit-making machine known as Ne-Yo works his magic yet again on YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN. Different from your average R&B crooner of the day, Ne-Yo backs away from overt sexuality, instead aiming for subtle romantic ballads that vary from playful innocence to brooding melancholy. Lead single "Closer" is unique as Ne-Yo works his silky smooth voice over a poppy house track. Overall, YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN is consistent in this respectfully seductive approach to the fairer sex. In "Nobody," an awed Ne-Yo sings the praises of his love interest--"Can't ...

| | Spinners Pick Of The Litter CD (1975)
In My Mind songs
$5.95 For their fourth Atlantic Records outing, the Spinners -- Henry Fambrough (baritone vocal), Billy Henderson (tenor vocal), Pervis Jackson (bass vocal), Bobbie Smith (tenor vocal) and Philippe Wynne (tenor vocal) -- cook up another sizable serving of Philly Soul under the care of producer/arranger Thom Bell. Following on the heels of three sequential gold records, it is not particularly surprising that they would continue in the same vein. The danceable R&B grooves -- especially the undeniably memorable "They Just Can't Stop It (The Games People Play)" -- not to mention the soulful slow jams, were ultimately a factor in making Pick of the Litter (1975) the Spinners' most successful long-player. Although the entire affair clocks in at just over half-an-hour, they pack a great deal into the effort, commencing with the dynamic mid-tempo "Honest I Do." The four-on-the-floor tempo and compact string arrangement are part and parcel of what made their sound so instantly discernible among concurrent copycat combos. They likewise had Wynne's versatile vocals in their arsenal, which was no doubt a significant component in their second 7" side, the compelling "Love or Leave." Instrumentally, the distinctive distorted guitar and refined brass accompaniment are all courtesy ...

| | Doug Howell Bluer Than It's Ever Been CD (2008)
In My Mind album
$12.65 Doug Howell is a singer-songwriter based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Raised on a farm in mid-Michigan, he went to the University of Michigan, majored in music composition, and got involved in Youth for Christ and other Christian groups. He performed with New Jerusalem for a couple of years, then joined Good News Circle, a traveling evangelistic singing group based in Elgin, Illinois. After traveling the US and recording an album with GNC, Doug left the group and began performing solo. He traveled all over the US, mainly in the midwest, singing in many college concert halls, coffee houses and churches, and produced five solo albums during this period. He settled in Ann Arbor again in 1979. The fourth album, "Songs from Hannah Hurnard's Classic Hinds' Feet on High Places," was recorded just before Christmas, 1982, in London, England, at Abbey Road studios. It is based on the popular Christian allegory, and was released with the cooperation ...
