Alexis & Fido (their real names are Raul Ortiz and Joel Martinez, respectively) are a reggaeton duo from Puerto Rico. PITBULLS (a name by which the duo is sometimes referred due to Alexis's penchant for barking) is Alexis & Fido's full-length debut. Making good on the promise of their single "El Tiburon" featured on the reggaeton sampler MAS FLOW, 2, PITBULLS is full of witty wordplay, suggestive lyrics, and cumbia, mariachi, and dancehall flavors, all of it underpinned by Fido's original beats. Already stars in their native Puerto Rico, Alexis & Fido are sure to see that fame spread given this assured debut.
After amassing an enormous fan base in their home of Puerto Rico and charting on an international level, thanks to their appearances on such smash-hit compilations as El Band 2 Korrupto and Mas Flow, Vol. 2, Alexis y Fido were ready to be heard. The Pitbulls was a long time coming for the die-hard fans of this duo, known for their deft, clever wordplay. Many have appreciated their style and flavor in small doses both on compilations and as guest performers with various reggaeton greats. All now have the opportunity to soak up their unique rhythm and flow with this 14-track debut from the Norte label. Both hailing from Cayey, Puerto Rico, Joel "Fido" Martinez and Raul "Alexis" Ortiz have been a presence in the reggaeton underground for years. Martinez has earned respect as a producer and demonstrates his skilled beatmaking on "El Cumbiaton," "Eso Ehh...!!," and "Tu No Sabes." The sexual nature of their humor is cleverly masked, and the duo avoids lyrical material that could be offensive to their female fan base. Another refreshing change from the norm is the unusually inventive and elaborate production. Densely layered samples and programming keep interest in a genre sometimes guilty of overly repetitive tracks. With such a strong first impression on the world market and a refreshing approach to the art form, serious reggaeton fans would be wise to keep their eye on this impressive duo. ~ Evan C. The album shows the wider range I was lookin for from them, Alexis kills it, more songs woulda been bangin but its great as is. Los Pitbulls ladrando bien dura, no hay liga papa!

its a good cd. loved it. they could do better and need to be more violent as they usually are. one of the best out there.

I like this two guys on the various artist cd's since they first came out, but i think they did not do there best on this cd.The cd is worth getting,I just know they could have done way better

Bebel Gilberto Remixed follows a certain pattern. After the Brazilian songstress with the sacred genes scored a hit record with her modern classic Tanto Tempo in 2000, her record label, Six Degrees, pieced together and released a remix album in its wake, Tanto Tempo Remixes. While that remix album didn't come close to matching the magic of its source, it was a nice enough release, and a great number of fans simply were happy to have more Gilberto to enjoy, even if it was a piecemeal departure from the original Suba productions that had made Tanto Tempo so special. Then, after Gilberto scored a hit record with her follow-up in 2004, Bebel Gilberto, Six Degrees again pieced together and released a remix album in its wake, Bebel Gilberto Remixed. And again, while this remix album doesn't come close to matching the magic of its source, it's a nice enough release, and a great number of fans simply will be happy to have more Gilberto to enjoy, even if it is a piecemeal departure from the original breezy set of half-English, half-Brazilian Portuguese songs. Piecemeal or not, Six Degrees did an expert job putting this collection of remixes together. The label rounded up roster of ace remixers like Thievery Corporation, Tom Middleton, and Nuspirit Helsinki, along with some fresh blood like hot up-and-comers Telefon Tel Aviv, Spiritual South, and Yam Who? You really can't scoff at the talent rounded up here; not only are these folks some of the best in their business, but for the most part, they're well suited for the breezy, slightly bossa style of the source material, with the Latin Project and John Beltran standing out as particularly intriguing participants. But no matter how promising all of this may seem, the fact of the matter is that the resulting album is a mixed bag. Each producer steals his own respective show, putting his production front and center, which is the opposite of Bebel Gilberto, where the productions were subtle and spare. That's ...
