Memoirs of a Geisha Soundtrack Product Description
Memoirs of a Geisha Soundtrack by Yo-Yo Ma / Itzhak Perlman / John Williams was released Nov 22, 2005 on the Sony Music label. For the soundtrack to 2005's MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, Hollywood composer John Williams unveils one of his most inventive scores. The film, based on Arthur Golden's bestselling novel about a poor girl who becomes a refined geisha in World War II-era Japan, is enhanced by Williams's emotive (and often melancholy) music, which deftly blends orchestral works with passages that feature traditional Japanese instruments such as the shakuhachi and the koto. Memoirs of a Geisha Soundtrack contains a single disc with 18 songs. ...See Full Description

| Moving As I closed my eyes while listening to the CD, I coulnd't help remembering each part of the film. With every note, I felt overwhelmed with emotion. Excellent! By Paula (Buenos Aires, Argentina) |
| Magically Orient Where I come from the music and it's ambience is what characterizes us and this music cd as well as the movie shows everyone else that there is more to our culture that you may think. For I was once a Geisha myself... This album really does accomplish the feel of the orient and it compliments the movie fantastically. It really is worth it! By Sakura (Kanazawa, Japan) |
| Another Masterpiece Bravo!!!, Maestro John Williams refuses to compose the archetypical "Oriental & Hollywood" score and does a great research in ethnical music. It´s amazing how, at his 73 years old it´s still composing with the force of a younger composer. A Truly Masterpiece, far away from common places. Great perfomances of Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma. | Different for John Williams, but great Film composer John Williams gave up scoring the "Harry Potter" franchise for this movie. I think he made the right decision. He captures a good authentic Japanese feel, with some real Japanese instruments in addition to a subdued orchestra and string solos from Yo Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. It's not your typical John Williams orchestral work, though; it's got more in common with Hans Zimmer's scores, such as that for "The Last Samurai", than "Star Wars" The main theme gets a bit repetitive at times, but there are some truly beautiful tracks here. | The music is captivating The music for Memoirs of A Geisha is really incredible. The music creates a mood for the listener and the characters themselves. By c.harvey52 (Waldron, AR, USA) |
