| | Jeff Dunham - Spark Of Insanity DVD (2007) Widescreen
Oxford November 11, 1992
$11.35 Comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham hits the stage with hilarious new pals Achmed the Dead Terrorist and Melvin the Super hero, as well as old favorites Peanut, Walter, and Jose Jalapeno, in this sidesplitting performance at Washington D.C.'s Warner Theater.
More than just a stand-up comic, Jeff Dunham is a one-man comedy troupe--a ring-leader in a circus of snark. The veteran ventriloquist may be the only one with vocal chords, but he’s often the least vocal, playing straight man to a steam trunk of personalities: Achmed the Dead Terrorist, a goofball skeleton still fighting the infidels; Peanut, an odd purple creature with a fast mouth; Jose Jalapeño, a smooth-talking pepper on a stick; Bubba J, NASCAR’s biggest fan; and Walter, a dirty old man who speaks his mind. Together with his hilarious and irreverent puppets, Dunham riffs on everything from politics to family life, and slays the audience with his quick-witted banter. SPARK OF INSANITY features one of Dunham’s funniest performances, recorded live at Washington D.C.’s Warner Theater.
Jeff Dunham has become one of the most successful touring comics ever and has amassed legions of loyal fans! At the American Comedy Awards, Dunham was voted Male Stand-Up Comic of the Year, an honor shared with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Foxworthy and Robin Williams. Thousands of sold-out theater and comedy club performances, his own top-rated special ...

| | Felt Ignite The Seven Cannon/The Strange CD (1985) (Import) United Kingdom
Oxford November 11, 1992
$15.79 Ignite the Seven Cannons is the album that contains Felt's most famous song, "Primitive Painters," an atypical effort that sounds a lot like Cocteau Twins. That's not surprising, considering that Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie appear as vocalist and producer, respectively. In fact, Guthrie produced the entire album, and Fraser also adds some "ahhs" to "The Day the Rain Came Down." Guthrie drowns Felt's busy instrumental sound in reverb, transforming otherwise sparkling pop songs like "Caspian See" into murky, almost drab affairs. Felt would go on to make other dreamy-sounding, reverb-soaked albums (like Forever Breathes the Lonely Word), but the effect would be applied more artfully than it is here. A few of the songs are so-so instrumentals, and "Textile Ranch" in particular would have been better with vocals. Ignite the Seven Cannons is neither Felt's best nor worst album, although the inclusion of "Primitive Painters" may have made it their most-heard. ~ Greg Adams On Ignite the Seven Cannons, Felt brings in Cocteau Twin Robin Guthrie to produce. While Guthrie brings along bandmate Elizabeth Fraser to add her typically ethereal vocals to "Primitive Painters" -- earning Felt a minor U.K. hit -- the collaboration doesn't work as well as one would hope. John Leckie's clear, simple production on the group's previous album, The Strange Idols Pattern and Other Short Stories, highlighted the shimmering guitar work and infused the album with odd yet breathtaking beauty. However, the guitars are deeper in the mix here, at times buried beneath Guthrie's atmospheric production and the addition of keyboardist Martin Duffy (later of Primal Scream). Lawrence Hayward has noted that this album sounds different than other Felt albums because Guthrie simply did what he did with the Cocteau Twins. And, while there is a new urgency to Hayward's singing -- bringing him even closer to the anti-vocals of his hero Tom Verlaine -- and some gorgeous guitar moments from the classically trained Maurice Deebank, this album falls short of the high-water mark set by the group's previous effort. ~ Erik Hage This collection contains the third and fourth Felt albums, THE STRANGE IDOLS PATTERN AND OTHER SHORT STORIES and IGNITE THE SEVEN CANNONS. Whereas their first two albums featured more meandering tracks, these albums feature songs that are more terse, though still with very elaborate arrangements. Standouts from STRANGE IDOLS include "Sunlight Bathed the Golden Glow," a cheerfully bitter character study featuring gorgeously jangling guitars, the oddly catchy "Dismantled King is Off the Throne," in which Lawrence's droll delivery is nicely offset by up tempo drumming, and "Whirlpool Vision of Shame," which features Maurice Deebank's complex guitar lines darting around the vocals. Produced by the Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie, IGNITE includes Felt's most well-known track, "Primitive Painters," ...
