Though a relatively minor figure in the power-pop movement (he played and wrote songs with Dwight Twilley), Phil Seymour's 1981 solo album is something of a pop gem. From the lead-off track and hit single "Precious to Me" to '50s-styled groovers like "Let Her Dance" to slinky psychedelic rockers like "Don't Blow Your Life Away," PHIL SEYMOUR is filled with tight, feel-good arrangements along with layered, Badfinger-esque harmonies and shimmering, perfectly constructed melodies. The 2005 CD reissue contains three previously unreleased bonus tracks (one of which was written by Twilley, who also penned two songs on the album proper). In the pantheon of cult power-pop classics, PHIL SEYMOUR compares favorably with the Dwight Twilley Band's SINCERELY, which is high praise indeed.
Personnel: Phil Seymour (vocals, various instruments); Duane Hitchings (keyboards); David Crockett (drums).
Phil Seymour Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Far More Than "Precious" To Me Phil Seymour started out as Dwight Twilley’s partner in The Dwight Twilley Band (the pair recorded the classic “I’m On Fire” in 1975). In 1980, Seymour released his self-titled debut album to pretty favorable reviews. The biggest hit was the power-pop classic “Precious To Me”.
I came across it in the cut-out bin in 1992. I bought it only for the song I liked, but I was amazed at how much good stuff lurked in the other tracks: the upbeat “Baby It’s You”, the fast and angry cover of the Go-Go’s “We Just Don’t Get Along”, the I-don’t-care vibe of “Let Her Dance”, and the passion in “I Really Love You”.
For years, the only song you could find from Phil Seymour - on CD or otherwise - was “Precious To Me”, and that was only on compilation discs. Finally – FINALLY – someone got the idea to re-release it on CD. There’s even three bonus tracks. The album sounds as good as ever, crisp and clean. The unreleased tracks sound a little rawer, a little unfinished. Seymour’s voice sounds a little bit dialed-down on these; I don’t know if they were originally contenders for space on this album or not, but I think they would have fit well with a touch more polish.
My only gripe is with the insert. It has a few photos and quotes from various publications and musicians who worked with Phil. I would have preferred a full bio or a complete lyric sheet.
But I’m so pleased that this has finally seen the light of CD release. Any time a favorite album gets cleaned and pressed for CD re-release, it’s a day to celebrate. I’ve already done that. Now it’s your turn.

Wonderful album Heard this album many years ago and really fell for it. Was happy to find it on CD. Love listening to it, the songs are great! Submitted by Ann (Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Rest In Peace, Phil. You are missed! This is one of the best pop-rock albums I had ever purchased and had waited many years to find it on CD at a cheap price. CD Universe gave me all of the Phil Seymour "bang" for very affordable "buck." Just getting a CD version of "Baby It's You" was worth what I spent. If you like early 80's pop-rock music, this is a great place to start! Submitted by Rodney (Missoula, MT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
PHIL SEYMOUR= MAJOR POP FIGURE* Precious To Me was a Billboard top 30 hit and there could have been 2 or 3 more smashes from this still thrilling disc. What a voice!
* Phil was a major influence on many pop singers - ask Robin Zander or Peter Case or Doug Fieger or Darren Hayes (Savage Garden)...

Phil Seymour album
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's ...

| | Beat/The Kids Are The Same CD (2005)
Phil Seymour music CDs
$13.69 Paul Collins' reputation as one of the wonder boys of L.A. power pop largely rests on the two albums he cut with the Beat in 1979 and 1982, and this two-fer CD reissue from Wounded Bird offers up both LPs on one disc, with extras included to round out the package. The Beat still sounds like a minor classic all these years later, offering a dozen sharp tunes and enough energy to fuel their own P.A. system; Collins' songs are smart without sounding overly brainy, and cover the typical topics (girls, jobs, cars) with an enthusiasm and spunk that makes them sound fresh. In a better world, "Don't Wait Up for Me" would have been a hit single, and "Rock 'n' Roll Girl" should be the theme song of record collector geeks everywhere. Unfortunately, The Kids Are the Same isn't quite as good; Bruce Botnick's production is a shade fussier than on the first set, and the material doesn't manage the same batting average, with Collins dipping into his more subdued side here, which isn't bad at all but sure ain't as exciting as the first LP's chargers. But Collins and his bandmates still sound ...
| | Electric Light Orchestra A New World Record - Expanded Edition CD (1976) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Phil Seymour songs
$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with FACE THE MUSIC and DISCOVERY.
1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a more ...
| | Dwight Twilley Twilley / Scuba Divers CD (2006) (Import) Reissue; Australia
Phil Seymour album
$19.99 Dwight Twilley is one of the great overlooked artists in American pop history. After creating two incredibly fine guitar pop records with Phil Seymour, Twilley struck out on his own and released the very good Twilley album in 1979 and the lesser but still exceedingly listenable Scuba Divers in 1982. Raven has done Twilley fans the service of releasing both on one disc and throwing in the "Money"/"Somebody to Love" single from 1979. Twilley is no great departure for Twilley and indeed features a handful of songs he had been stockpiling for years. The band features many of the same musicians from the previous albums, most notably guitarist Bill Pitcock IV, while songs like "Nothing's Ever Gonna Change So Fast," "Betsy Sue," and "Runaway" are the kind of classicly structured, ...

Phil Seymour music CDs
$13.69 "These kids aren't even trying to score a radio hit, and I love em for it. Smart, playful and eccentric, Maggi, Pierce, and E.J. share trippy fun.Imagine the B-52's cross-breeding (as if they could) with George Carlin and Dan Hicks and you're kinda (but not really) tuning onto their whimsical wavelength. Here the trio bemoans the burdens of Stuff, gets sucked into the mindless vortex of cable TV with Linda's Red Button and makes the best of their poverty situation by gobbling more Beans (What a gas!) They lead us down a path and then veer off in an unexpected direction, kicking off the Adam and Eve saga of garden of Sin with a vamp from Midnight Hour, burning up the sheets with the surprisingly sexy Liquid Sunburn or going through some spacey changes on One More Time. The latter is a subtly critical song about dabbling with heroin that practically gets you high. Best of a terrific lot: the dreamy, drift away imagery of Bath. Ah, now that's refreshment!" - Jonathan Takiff of the Philadelphia Daily News"The eclectic Maggi, Pierce And E.J. is back with its 3rd album. As with its predecessors, this one includes some zany, often eccentric, songs. This album has an excellent, powerful rock-based approach especially in the riffy Implode, Stuff, and the almost psychedelic jug-band sounds of Lady Luck. There's a Zappa-ish slant to the humorous One More ...
