Second Life Syndrome Music Second Life Syndrome Music Second Life Syndrome Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A Brave New Style I just bought "Out of Myself" and "Second Life Syndrome" from CD Universe, and I must say Riverside has an unique style - the blend of Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree is quite distinct, and I hear a little of IQ. Together with the double bass drumming to the atmospheric and psychedelic elements, this has to be a new style - "Riverside" style. Brave and unique. Brave because they are bold to use Pink Floyd influence outrightly on some of the songs and had taken the totality to another level, and if it did not work, it would have bombed! Lyrics however are too dark. With so many bands trying to imitate someone else, Riverside has come up with a refreshing and interesting style.

My New Favorite Album... I bought the Riverside CD based on a bit in one of those Inside Out ads in every album. On a related note, that same IO ad is one of my favorite articles of literature. The best review I can give is that I listened to the album on a recent car trip (from Myrtle Beach, SC to VA) all the way up and back. It's that damn good. Trippy, heavy, and mind-bogglingly beautiful in different degrees, the whole album is a sound to behold. Submitted by xailith (Pittsylvania County, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent First Release This is one of the best new Prog Rock bands to come of Eastern Europe in a long time. For a first release album - it is top notch. It is an excellent blend of progressive rock with the some good "metal guitar". The voacls are also top notch. Riverside has a very unique sound that is all their own. You will not be disappointed. Progressing Well This second offering from Riverside maintains their own unique sound - a blend of Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, and maybe a tinge of Arena. This one is somewhat heavier than "Out of Myself." After several spins it will become clearer to you the value and depth of this band from Poland. Riverside's quite alright First found of this band by the progressive rock search and they were one
of the few that gave samples of their work. The production is really good on this, they're 2nd cd. Along the same line
as the 1st but I guess it seemed more orignal. Overall though, a good disc. Submitted by John W. (Belleville) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Second Life Syndrome CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Porcupine Tree In Absentia CD (2002)
Second Life Syndrome album
$8.55 There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & roll directness, and acoustically- and electronically-generated sounds. Their debut IN ABSENTIA shows all these elements in place, rich with the likely possibility of them becoming a contemporary counterpart to Pink Floyd.
Hailed by Billboard as 'cinematic...simple gorgeous', Porcupine Tree are unquestionably one of the UK's most inspired and inventive rock groups. In Absentia is their eagerly anticipated Lava Records debut. Digipak. 2002.
Recorded at Avatar Studio, New York, New York between March & April 2002.
Porcupine Tree: Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, Gavin Harrison, Steven Wilson.
Personnel: John Wesley (guitar, background vocals); Julian Leaper, Perry Mason, Warren Zielinski, Mark Berrow, Katherine Shave, Dave Woodcock, Rebecca Hirsch, Paul Willey, Ben Cruft, ...

| | Porcupine Tree Deadwing CD (2005)
Second Life Syndrome music CDs
$10.59 Considering their cinematic scope, it's fitting that the songs on DEADWING were actually inspired by a film script written by Porcupine Tree mastermind Steven Wilson. Not that this should come as any surprise to longtime fans who know the UK act's reputation for churning out epic progressive rock so sonically descriptive that it's practically visual.
Porcupine Tree creates works with complex structures that do not alienate or obscure the songs themselves, pieces that are dark and psychedelic without being sinister. On the 12-minute opening title track, weighty guitar riffs and spacious synths immediately recall Nine Inch Nails, but swooping melodic changes give way to ambient passages, making it plain that this is no industrial-rock rip-off. "Arriving Somewhere But ...
| | Riverside Voices In My Head CD (2006) Enhanced CD
Second Life Syndrome songs
$12.59 Originally issued in 2005 in the band's native Poland and quickly deleted, Voices in My Head was a follow up to the band's debut full-length, Out of Myself. The original EP is here augmented by three live tracks and a video for the song "Acronym Love." Newcomers may be surprised by the lush approachability of Riverside's sound; the band is generally assigned to the prog/metal category, but the only apparent reason for that is the general sense of grandiosity that informs its music. For most metal bands, grandiosity is bad news, taking what might otherwise be salutary noise ...

| | Neurosis Times Of Grace CD (1999)
Second Life Syndrome songs
$13.09 Art-metal heavyweights Neurosis have been steadily perfecting the balance between heaviness and symphonic grandeur, and they may have gotten things one hundred percent correct with TIMES OF GRACE. While the term "progressive" might elicit groans from diehard headbangers, it's entirely appropriate when describing the evolution of Neurosis's sound. Songs like "The Doorway" and "The Last You'll Know" build an inescapable sense of oppressive dread with their walls of crushing, droning guitar, but the band has far more than that to offer. Tribal rhythms, electronic textures, ...

| | Suphala Now CD (2005) Digipak; Enhanced CD
Second Life Syndrome songs
$14.29 Layering voices, electronic elements, deep bass, flutes, violins, and the polyrhythmic tick and bounce of the tabla drums, Suphala has made a deeply evocative and compelling record in THE NOW. Suphala's skills as a composer, producer, and tabla player have been sought after by numerous artists (Sean Lennon, Norah Jones, and Perry Ferrell, among them), and it is easy to see why from the dazzling, futuristic sound of this solo debut.
The opening track, "Transport," rides a slow, cosmic funk groove that threads lines of floating vocals and moaning, reverbed guitar through the mix. "Wind Farm Harvest," co-written and performed with former Living Color guitarist ...
