Stephen Pollock So Near, So Far Songs So Near, So Far Music Review Purchase So Near, So Far CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Mingus Big Band I Am Three CD (2005)
So Near, So Far album
$14.85 As usual, the Mingus Big Band is in exuberant form throughout their performances on this CD, most notably on definitive versions of "Song with Orange" and "Orange Is Color of Her Dress," both of which were arranged by the late John Stubblefield. A bit different is that two songs apiece are played by Mingus Dynasty (a septet taken out of the big band) and the Mingus Orchestra. The latter, in addition to six bandmembers, adds French horn, bass clarinet, bassoon, and guitar. But although those two smaller groups have their moments, there is nothing that can match the Mingus Big Band at its finest. The key soloists include trumpeters Jeremy Pelt, Randy Brecker, and Jack Walrath, pianist George Colligan, trombonists ...
| | Eddie Henderson Precious Moment CD (2006)
So Near, So Far CD music
$14.35 One of relatively few psychiatrists who has simultaneously established himself as an active jazz musician with an extensive discography (another is Denny Zeitlin), Eddie Henderson's prescription for jazz fans is this mellow, primarily ballad-oriented studio session. With pianist Kevin Hays, bassist Ed Howard and drummer Billy Hart, Henderson ...

| | Russell Malone Live At Jazz Standard, Vol. 1 CD (2006)
So Near, So Far songs
$15.39 Russell Malone's second CD for Maxjazz Live at Jazz Standard, Vol. 1 has a bit of a harder edge then Playground, his first session for the label. Well accompanied by pianist Martin Bejerano, bassist Tassili Bond and drummer Jonathan Blake on this live performances at the Jazz Standard, the guitarist focuses mostly on his challenging originals. "I Saw You Do It" is a marvelous example, an intricate, boundary stretching affair that is essentially ...
| | Mccoy Tyner Afro Blue CD (2007)
So Near, So Far album
$9.05 AFRO BLUE is a compilation album collecting McCoy Tyner's work for the Telarc Label. The work dates from the late 1990s and 2000s, and while the music may lack the ferocity of some of Tyner's classic ...
| | Dave Holland Pass It On CD (2008)
So Near, So Far CD music
$9.69 Using a sextet, upright bassist Holland sets the bar even higher than on his previous efforts, adding the always tasteful pianist Mulgrew Miller and a four-horn front line that is relentless. The jaunty opening number, "The Sum of All Parts," is a 5/4 African percussion-based piece led by Robin Eubanks with folded-in alto and trumpet and witty counterpoint. Adding a light samba feel during the upbeat "Fast Track" with the horns in perfect unison, the ensemble shifts up to hard bop. A 10/8 choppy and bouncy "Modern Times" also uses Brazilian inferences and sees Antonio Hart switching to soprano. On the soulful side, the title track recalls ...
| | Mose Allison Greatest Hits CD (1988)
So Near, So Far music CDs
$8.65 Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1988, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
This compilation presents the best of the material Allison recorded for Prestige betwwen 1957 and 1959. It's plain that he was already a fully formed talent. His prickly piano runs and subtly swinging vocal style where ...

| | Tina Mcdowelle Juxtaposition CD (2008)
So Near, So Far CD music
$10.15 Tina McDowelle is an artist that takes her listeners on an adventure. Anyone who listens to the cd will tell you they feel like they were abducted to a far off space light years away. It's a trip, reminiscent of the psychedelic trips from back in the day, with an experimental r&b, pop, edgy futuristic feel. Talk about a vibe...it's feel great music. Music to wake up to, work out to, spread joy to.Furthermore, Tina McDowelle, has been been teaching at AGAPE, a spiritual center in LA for two years. Have you heard the popular buzzes of "The Secret" or Oprah's "Eckart Tolle classes?" Well Tina has been a student, and teacher of these thoughts and philosophies for years and has infused it in to a lot of her song writing. So the listener will think they're just dancing, but on the low they are being exposed ...
