This CD is fine for background musak. This is a case of a OK classical sax player that tries to do some jazz standards... very lame. There are no "nice moments" just OK playing... nothing here that says to you, I want to hear that again...As far as Branford saying this is the best sax player he knows...he forgot to add... that lines his pocket. James Houlik (sp?), Pollock's teacher could blow him away on a bad day! now that's a guy that can make the tenor sing! yes...it's so far, as it says!

As usual, the Mingus Big Band is in exuberant form throughout their performances on this CD, most notably on definitive versions of "Song with Orange" and "Orange Is Color of Her Dress," both of which were arranged by the late John Stubblefield.
