| | Lord Of Rings Fellowship Of Ring Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring: The Complete Recordings Soundtrack CD (12 Customer Reviews)
This nicely packaged box set, spread out over three CDs and a DVD-Audio (which features the score in Surround Sound), contains the complete score for FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, the first film in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Composer Howard Shore's sweepingly epic, award-winning music for the film is presented in its entirety, and the greater scope of the box set, not to mention the stunning sound, reveal the work in its true grandeur. Naturally, Enya's "May It Be" (which was nominated for an Oscar) is here as well, making this a hefty souvenir for enthusiasts of the film.
Original Soundtrack/Howard Shore: Edward Ross, Elizabeth Fraser, London Oratory School Schola, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Mabel Faletolu.

| Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring: The Complete Recordings Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews The First Piece of Howard Shore's Masterpiece Few soundtrack deserve such treatment but the breadth and complexity of Shore's LOTR scores qualify. Tolkien's detailed fantasy world provides the framework upon which Shore rose to the challenge of supporting musically. The three CDs allow the listener to enjoy all the layering and themes that Shore has created.
All this plus a fourth disc containing enhanced audio versions of the score including a DVD-Audio version and extensive liner notes make for a true collector's edition.
Packaged in faux book style there is much to please the Tolkien and music fan. Submitted by olddarth (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Finally... THE version to get!!!! This is the version of the score that I was waiting for! This set has all of the music that I heard in the film but could not find in the previous versions for the soundtrack CD. I wanted ALL of the music, and now I have it! And to further make this set a must-have, they even put the entire 3-CD score on a 4th disc: a single high-quality DVD-audio disc, so now I can hear the entire score in superior sound without a single disc change! That, my friends, is the treatment that this music deserves. Howard Shore's scores to the Lord of the Rings trilogy are modern musical masterpieces - just deal with it. I am egarly awaiting the release of the other two scores in these definitive versions. They will all be mine... oh yes... they will ALL be mine! Absolutely incredible DVD Audio is absolutely incredible in its detail. A score such as this one deserves the treatment that only high resolution surround sound offers. From the explosive dynamic brass to the softest vocals of Enya and Cocteau Twins, the breadth of this soundtrack is as epic as the film itself. A mere listen in the high resolution stereo format even with a nice pair of Sennheiser headphones and a tube headphone amplifier will make your jaw drop for its stunning clarity; I was unable to rest until I listened to the entire score. In the 5.1 format the soundstage is mindbogling, yet, not "in your face". Subtle detail is so much more appreciated, especially since, in the film, several portions become rather subdued for obvous reasons like dialog and sound effects. But with music only, one is able to close his eyes and listen with imagination of the visuals while absorbing the brilliance of this score. The keepsake box is a nice touch and liner notes are very insightful reading. One can only hope the next two wil be given this royal treatment it deserves. Hats off to Howard Shore for a magnifecent score. Only wish the "Final Credits" portion of the extended version of the film was included. That would have made this the perfect soundtrack.
