| | Kem Album II CD Kem Discography of CDs
(5 Customer Reviews)
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
With an alluring smooth-jazz backdrop to match his silken vocals, Kem captured many a heart on his bewitching debut, KEMISTRY. For his 2005 follow-up, simply titled ALBUM II, the Nashville native provides another set of enchanting soul torch songs, exquisitely produced by Kem himself. The result is an incredibly seductive record with winsome flutes and summery saxophones drifting in behind Kem's beguiling voice.
Kem opens ALBUM II by questioning the nature of love on "Find Your Way (Back in My Life)," and the entire record is an exploration of that familiar theme. Kem's take on love is multi-faceted and, at times, deeply tied to his connection with God, to whom he directly addresses two songs, "Heaven" and "Each Other." An unassuming spirituality winds its way through his R&B compositions in an organic fashion similar to Stevie Wonder's early 1970s output, and, fittingly, that legend drops by to lend his unmistakable harmonica to the breathtaking "You Might Win." ALBUM II serves as an admirable second outing for an emergent soul voice.
This Dualdisc features the complete 2nd album by Kem; smooth grooves, poignant heartfelt lyrics and just plain feel-good music. The DVD side features live performance concert footage from his "Homecoming Concert," behind the scenes footage, bonus interviews, the international re-mix of "I Can't Stop Loving You," the new video "Find Your Way (Back in My Life," lyrics and a photo gallery.
Personnel: Kem (vocals, keyboards); Quentin Baxter, Reggie McTaw (guitar); Stevie Wonder (harmonica); David McMurray (saxophone); Brian O'Neal (keyboards, synthesizer); Fred Robinson , Al Turner (bass instrument); Ron Otis (drums); Marlon Curry (percussion). Awesomely mellow! I bought this album after hearing it played at the hair salon ---- oh...my...God!!! This album is so very good, I feel inept in describing it. It has the honor of being one of those CDs you can put on, hit the repeat button, and listen to over and over without having to "skip" any. It is absolutely relaxing, soothing, and message-filled. I could name my favorites, but the entire ALBUM II is my favorite!
Buy it and enjoy!

Album II album
$11.39 Like a male Sade, or vintage Steely Dan without the irony, smooth R&B vocalist Kem weaves mellow, late-night musical tapestries over '70s-style jazz grooves. In the process, he manages to sound completely contemporary without so much as a single hip-hop beat or squiggly synth line. Kem's voice is an instrument of subtle grace and power, his vocal timbre and clipped phrasing owing an immediately obvious debt to Sam Cooke, but, interestingly, also occasionally recalling Dave Matthews. Best of all, however, is the Motown vocalist's sense of restraint. The maturity of his delivery belies his youth and puts many established vocalists to shame. Combining the best elements of Luther Vandross, Lou Rawls, and Seal, Kem delivers a slab of jazz-inflected rhythm & blues that proves it's still possible to serve up a maximum amount of soul with a minimum of fuss.

| | Stevie Wonder Time To Love CD (2005)
Album II CD music
$13.35 On his first studio album since 1995's CONVERSATION PIECE, R&B legend Stevie Wonder revisits familiar ground from earlier eras in his career while keeping with contemporary pop sounds. Although certain tracks conjure up the vibe of early Wonder outings (the funky "Please Don't Hurt My Baby" and the sunny, upbeat "Positivity," which features additional vocals by his daughter Aisha Morris), other tunes (the smooth "From the Bottom of My Heart" and the romantic "Passionate Raindrops") recall his more polished '80s period.

| | Brian Mcknight Gemini CD (2005)
Album II music CDs
$10.65 On that latter track, the silken-voiced balladeer intones "it's hard to breathe without you, girl, and baby, that's a fact" with an earthen, vulnerable sincerity that typifies every McKnight composition. It's that mature connection to his songs that places McKnight in the category of the finest contemporary R&B crooners. He drives that point home on "Grown Man Business," as he touts the virtues of the reliable, refined man over the sweetest of soul beats. Brian McKnight has been turning heads since he was in his teens, and as a thirtysomething on GEMINI, he is at the top of his game.
Those born under Gemini, the sign of the twins, are thought of, in astrological terms, as unpredictable, complex creatures. Thus, it is fitting that Brian McKnight would dub his 2005 record ...

| | Isley Brothers Baby Makin' Music CD (2006)
Album II album
$10.89 The follow-up to the Isley's excellent 2003 album BODY KISS gives all indications that the legendary R&B outfit is still going strong some 50 years into its career. Decades before young, hip-hop-influenced urban contemporary singers were swinging and swaying their way into women's good graces, Ronald Isley was laying down the blueprint as the original mac crooner, and BABY MAKIN' MUSIC proves he's still got it.
Ronald's vocal delivery ...
| | Mary J Blige Growing Pains CD (2007)
Album II CD music
$10.45 It's no accident that Mary J. Blige is an icon on the urban contemporary scene, in large part because each new album--and 2007's GROWING PAINS is her eighth--finds her more self-assured as a singer, a lyricist, and a person. Like 2005's THE BREAKTHROUGH, GROWING PAINS delivers a mature Mary J., one who's faced down her demons and emerged triumphant. The tough-as-nails, confessional nature of her work is still what gives it its distinctive stamp, but Blige's sonic palette continues to grow as well.
From the heavily hip-hop-tinged "Work That," to the 1980s-sounding pop of "Fade Away," to the swirling ...
| | Candye Kane Toughest Girl Alive CD (2000)
Album II music CDs
$13.65 Candye Kane is a big-voiced blues singer with a twist. Though they are mostly credited as originals, the tunes are familiar from other blues, R&B, and jump blues compositions. The differences lie in Kane's lyrics and in her enthusiasm in singing them. The former adult film star stakes out a pan-sexual stance that she expounds lustily. Jack Tempchin's "Who Do You Love?" finds her endorsing homosexuality, a ménage à trois, and prostitution, and assuring her listeners that God does, too. Her own "(Hey Mister!) She Was My Baby Last Night" portrays an unexpected combination in a romantic triangle. In "For Your Love," Kane lists a series of sexual fantasy characters ranging from "a dominatrix with a whip up above" to "a White House intern." And "Let's Commit Adultery" states its position in its title. The backing band, which occasionally features Dave Alvin and Marcia Ball, is excellent, but the distinctive element in the mix is Kane's lusty persona. ~ William Ruhlmann
