Set in a fictional town based on Chicago, the action centered on a chaotic police precinct and provided a very realistic view of the private and work lives of characters who occupied every rung of the hierarchical ladder. The first season starts the action with a bang and doesn't let up, as Precinct Captain Furillo (Daniel J. Travanti) has to defuse a hostage crisis. The rest of the season keeps up the pace, as Officer Larue (Kiel Martin) battles a drinking problem, Sgt. Esterhaus (Michael Conrad) questions his upcoming marriage, and Furillo finds his chances for promotion compromised by a city councilman's involvement in a murder. Hill Street Blues - The Complete First Season Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  The fans want more
Hill Street Blues was one of the best shows ever made, and is still just as great today, why are they not bringing the rest of the collection to dvd, they stopped after season 2, many Hill fans are waiting.

This DVD set is incredible -- after waiting for nearly 20 years, I can savor this show that I adored watching growing up. If you have never had the pleasure, buy this DVD set -- one show and you will be hooked. All of the characters and writing are fantastic, and Joyce and Frank are perhaps the greatest tv couple ever -- sexy, mature, flawed and romantic. You will not be disappointed. I can't wait until Season 2! Hopefully, the extras and commentary will improve -- that is the only negative.

This show has stood the test of time without any doubt. The characters, writing and overall production are unmatched then and still are today. I highly recommend this DVD set. Although personally I was let down by the extras. How can they not have the driving character of the show in the interview? No Capt. Furillo. Not even one mention of Daniel J. Travanti. Hill Street would not have been what it was without this character. Perhaps they will correct this mistake when Season 2 is released.

What a show this was. Although the clothes and hairdos are dated, the characters are just as relevant now as they were in the '80's. The theme song still gives me chills after all these years.
I'll never understand why Daniel J. Travanti did not get more work.
I highly recommend this set, and can't wait for season 2.
