This was the second Sam & Dave album to enjoy significant crossover appeal. The 1967 record included such hits as "Said I Wasn't Gonna Tell Nobody," "Soothe Me," and "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby." Isaac Hayes and David Porter were now rolling as songwriters, and even though the record didn't attain big pop numbers, the singles clicked with both soul and pop audiences. More importantly, Sam & Dave's teamwork and vocal interaction were establishing them as major stars. ~ Ron Wynn
Personnel: Samuel Moore, Dave Prater (vocals).
Liner Note Author: Deanie Catron.

$21.49 Born, Santonio Hughbanks, S.U.N. (Scientific Universal Noncommercial) is and has always been a lyrical expressionist in every sense of the term. Rapping since the youthful age of 16, he later went on to co-found the group UBU. With partner Brother Browne, the group explored spirituality and culture to the tune of lyrical abstractions and blazing hot hip hop beats. The duo enjoyed success with two independent releases, "Deep Space" and "Radical Spiritual Aggression".The itch to put out a solo album became overwhelming as some of his music and lyrics were only relevant for a solo release. Sun's always made his music for himself first, so in late '97 Sun began recording his tour-de-force, "Shining Underground" and brought his whole vision to life. With the release of this album, Sun has not only received the love and respect of his hip-hop community, but has received high praise from some in the music press. MTV on-line writer, Christina Branson, had this to say of his performance at U of M, Michigan: "Hip Hop phenomenon S.U.N. aka Santonio Hughbanks lit up Club Heidleberg with sweet beats and lyrical finesse. The promising rapper dropped verses from his debut album "Shining Underground" (Black Soul On Vinyl) causing the crowd to bob their heads and chant: S.U.N." Underground Soundz Magazine confirms "distinct styles and hard edged lyrical delivery... advanced poetical stylings... definitely some of the most exciting hip hop to come from Michigan." His music has been used as sound track for an independent film. His current album continues to sell heavily in the midwest and across the nation."T.H.U.G. (True Heart Under Ground)" is the first single from the album. Sun views himself and many in his community as "underground", not just in music, but in life... struggling underground, ...

$16.39 âWeâre just movinâ and groovinâ! Things have been bustinâlately, ya know? Weâve got a full plate of tacos, man!âDoes that sound familiar? If it does, youâre probably aDoug-head. If it doesnât, prepare to party in pure Texas style.Shawn Sahm is here with the Tex Mex Experience and life willnever be the same. Sahm has gathered four musicians whoseexperience and backgrounds complement his own for a fiestanot soon forgotten. From the moment he sat on the knee of his father Doug Sahmon the cover of Rolling Stone in 1968, there was never a question as to what Shawnâs path in life would be: itâs always been on theroad. And after his father passed away in 1999, Shawn wasnât about to slow down. Having spent the better part of the last six yearsoverseeing the estate and various projects, he returned to his firstmusical love: the amalgam of rock & roll and across-the-borderrhythms that define the Tex-Mex sound.âThe idea was to take the influences, the sound, the real stuff, whatâs in your heart and in your soul,â Shawn enthuses. âThat music is apart of me. What makes the band unique is that we are doing musicfor the love of it. Itâs not the âinâ thing or the popular thing, itâssomething Iâll be doing one way or another for the rest of my life.Even when I was young playing in rock bands, I was alwaysplaying with Dad and writing songs.âShawn Sahm also learned how to put together the right musiciansfor the right sound and when it came time to lay down the bottomof the band, he drafted George Rains as drummer. Rains firstrecorded with the elder Sahm on *Honky Blues* in 1967 and wenton to play with an array of musicians including Boz Scaggs,Chuck Berry, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bo Diddley, Van Morrison,Big Mama Thorton, Junior Wells, and Lowell Fulsom. âGeorge,âdeclares Shawn without hesitation âis the Jedi groovemaster of drums.âNo surprise that Neal Walker would pick up the bass slot in the Tex MexExperience. Walker played with Shawn in his teenage metal bandPrezence and impressed all enough to join Doug on a variety ofalbums and tours. âDad loved his harmony. Neal has this killer high harmonyDad said was like a young Atwood Allen.â High praise indeed!Accordionist and vocalist Mike Guerra played in the Texamaniacs. And is currently joining Shawn in the reuniting of The Texas Tornados where Michael will be playing Bajo. Guerra, an import from Los Angelesalso recently recorded with Los Lonely Boys and brings his bajo and keyboardsto the Tex Mex Experience. âHeâs got the makings of the next Flaco,â Shawnpraises his bandmate. âHeâs our MVP.âAnd speaking of Flaco, Nunie Rubio regularly sings with the noted accordionist.Rubioâs distinctive ...
