EGYPTIAN REGISTER is an album by the moody instrumental group Gift Trip. Steve Kilbey of the Church and Russell P. Kilbey of the Crystal Set are joined by other musicians on this CD.
Steve (The Church) and Russell P. Kilbey (The Crystal Set) create a new mosaic of instrumental music, and this time they've brought friends. An album that has the peace of air, the atmosphere of brian eno mixed through a wide variety of moods and feels. This is the perfect companion piece for "Gilt Trip 1" - showing the versatility of these accomplished composers to serve up such a varied and enticing blend of soundscapes. | Egyptian Register Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) This is awesome.....buy it Steve & Russell Kilbey weave a collection of ambient, sometimes middle eastern flavored masterpieces.
A variety of ethnic instruments are used and every song sounds different.
Instrumental music like this might make some forget about music withy vocals all together. Submitted by bagouser (NOLA, USA (Still Standing)) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
WHY ARE'NT PUGWASH HUGE STARS ! Thomas Walsh and friends mine a seam of pure power pop gold on Jollity, the bands third album. This is great stuff and anyone who loves late period Beatles, ELO and XTC will melt before these gorgeous melodies and inventive harmonies. Pristine production, Walsh's McCartneyesque voice high in the mix and, a collection of songs ranging from uptempo pop/rock to epic ballads, all perfectly constructed mini symphonies.
With no new XTC record on the horizon and McCartney's muse on permanent vacation - this is the perfect record to step into the breach. Submitted by hippymusicman (boston, lincs, uk) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
My favorite CD last year!! If you are a fan of XTC, Jason Falkner, The Beatles, Harry Nillson or Michael Penn you will likely have a hard time taking this CD out of rotation. Wow! From the opening track "It's Nice To Be Nice" to the gorgeous "Anchor" co-written with XTC man Andy Partridge, this CD showcases the voice and melodic talent of Thomas Walsh and mates. It was easily my favorite CD from 2006. Do yourself a favor and Buy it now. If you can't do it today...save up a few extra quarters and do it next week. Then you can write me to say thanks for the tip. You won't be disappointed! Submitted by Ken (Indianapolis, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Egyptian Register album
$14.44 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Egyptian Register CD music
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as ...

| | Leona Lewis Echo CD (2009)
Egyptian Register album
$11.18 The goal of Leona Lewis' 2007 debut, Spirit, was to prove that an X Factor winner could be a phenomenon not just in the U.K., but in the rest of the world. The goal of her second album, 2009's Echo, is to prove that success was no fluke, to build upon "Bleeding Love" and turn Lewis into an actual diva. Certainly, Echo in any of its incarnations -- its song listings are tailored for individual markets, with the U.K. getting a cover of Oasis' "Stop Crying Your Heart Out," while the U.S. gets a second song co-written by Justin Timberlake -- uses the chilly, synthesized "Bleeding Love" as its foundation, creating a sheet of sound equal parts Euro-pop and modern American R&B. As opposed to the often-stuffy Spirit, this is proudly modern, and if the sounds emanating from the two sides of the Atlantic might seem to be aesthetically opposed, they're both producer-driven music constructed layer by layer from rhythm to the vocal, where the overall sound matters more than what's being sung. Which isn't to say that Lewis doesn't sing the hell out of the songs on ...
| | Lou Reed New Sensations CD (1984) Reissue; Remastered
Egyptian Register CD music
$11.18 Lou Reed never struck anyone as one of the happiest guys in rock & roll, so some fans were taken aback when his 1984 album New Sensations kicked off with "I Love You, Suzanne," a catchy up-tempo rocker that sounded a lot like a pop tune. After reaffirming his status as one of rock's greatest poets with The Blue Mask and Legendary Hearts, what was Reed doing here? Lou was having a great time, and his pleasure was infectious -- New Sensations is a set of straight-ahead rock & roll that ranks with the most purely enjoyable albums of Lou's career. Reed opted not to work with ...

Egyptian Register album
$14.29 Stuart Ross' musical comedy revue Forever Plaid, in which a vocal quartet covers many of the pre-rock pop hits of the 1950s, is based on the conceit that the singers were killed on their way to their first professional engagement, which just happened to be on the night the Beatles played The Ed Sullivan Show, thus wiping their chosen form of music off the pop charts, but now they have been granted one night to come back and perform their show. That happened for the first time on May 20, 1990, at Steve McGraw's, a supper club on Manhattan's Upper West Side, and it happened again for more than 1,500 off-Broadway performances, leading to touring companies and regional productions around the world. (After all, the show was packed with hit songs, and it only took four singers, a piano, and some dinner jackets to pull off.) RCA Victor released an original cast album ...
