Paddy MacAloon is arguably one of England's finest modern songwriters, and this 1990 release was a gloriously overlong melange of styles, bound together by some of his most inspired melodies. The nineteen tracks cover a typically diverse range of subject matters, including a quartet of songs about the rise and fall of Elvis Presley that provide the album with its thematic core. Elsewhere, on songs such as "We Let The Stars Go", "All The World Loves Lovers" and "Doo Wop In Harlem" MacAloon's songwriting hit new peaks. Never gaining the commercial success it deserved, "Jordan: The Comeback's" heady brew even appeared to be a step too far for MacAloon, who did not release another album for seven years.

OK, tough guy. Everyone knows real men don't like slow songs, whispy voices, or songs about God. (And why would anyone sing about horse chimes, but that's another album ...) So when you're alone, feeling feeble, ready to be KO'd by a pop hook, dig Jordan. And next time you make a speech, quote our man Paddy:
"We ask that all the wrong we've done, the years ahead forgive us.
"We ask that all the good we've done, let all of it outlive us."

With Barcelona, Queen singer Freddie Mercury realized his long-lived dream of performing with an opera singer; in this case, Montserrat Caballe. While it's certainly a treat for any fan of Mercury's to hear this album, it's a difficult record to recommend. Most fans of opera will probably find it far too simplistic and pop-based, while many rock fans are sure to find the record too classical. We Move Through Weather marks a transitional phase for Tarentel, and for a band that's seemingly constantly in transition, the shift on this album is perhaps the most pronounced of all their documented metamorphoses. Whether or not the modification of their mission statement reflects on the ever shifting lineup (Jefre Cantu-Ledesma and Danny Grody being the only constants) or is merely the result of the constant evolution of a highly adaptive species is inconsequential -- Tarentel never fail to surprise, confound, delight and challenge their listeners and fans to be as adaptive as they are. This phase of the band, who have successfully explored everything from ambient minimalism, avant-garde, soundtrack work, and modern classical composition to straight-up guitar hero post-rock, could be its most abstract, and would reach its pinnacle with 2007's Ghetto Beats on the Surface of the Sun.
