With his fine sense of songcraft and political conscience, Antigua-born singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona stands apart from the slew of Latin "lover man" singers. ADENTRO (2005) is arguably one of the artist's most accomplished releases, combining several styles with a keen ear for pop accessibility. Arjona's lyrical prowess and thought-provoking themes will be lost on those who don't speak Spanish, but there is still plenty to appreciate in his songwriting, rich arrangements, and strong, emotive voice.
Personnel: Ricardo Arjona (vocals); Yasmil Marrufo (guitar, electric bass); Miguel Núñez, Carlos Cabral, Jr. (piano); Robbie Buchanan (Fender Rhodes piano); Kim Ballard (Hammond b-3 organ); Juan Vincente Zambrano, Armando Montiel (percussion).

here we go again... The cd is great, im sure it contains a couple future #1 songs on the latin billboard charts. Great musical arrangements by Tommy Torres, and great lyrical content. If you know spanish, and actually listen to the words and understand the meaning, and take the song past its nice arrangement, and commercial potential, then that's when you realize the true musical value of his music. A must have. Submitted by charlie22_0 (Chi-town) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | La Oreja De Van Gogh Lo Que Te Conte Mientras Te Hacias La Dormida CD (2003)
Adentro songs
$10.09 LO QUE TE CONTE MIENTRAS TE HACIAS LA DORMIDA was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
Although at first listen La Oreja de Van Gogh's third release might sound like a slick rehashing of the same pop formula that had brought the group consistent commercial success, Lo Que Te Conté Mientras Te Hacías la Dormida (What I Told You While You Pretended to Be Asleep) merits closer attention. Beyond some similarities to their earlier work -- nostalgic lyrics, ridiculously catchy choruses, and lead singer Amaia Montero's seemingly fragile delivery -- this album displays far greater emotional and musical range than do their earlier efforts. Montero and keyboard player Xabi San Martín continue to write most of the music, and guitar player Pablo Benegas most of the lyrics, but there are some notable exceptions, like album opener and first single ...

$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, ...

| | Swing To Bop: Guitars In Flight 1939-1947 CD (2000)
Adentro music CDs
$13.79 Recorded between 1939 and 1947. Includes liner notes by Richard Lieberson.
Jazz evolved with certain instruments in the foreground: pianos, trumpets, trombones, clarinets, and saxophones led the way through the rapid stylistic developments of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s. Beginning in the late '30s, as electrical amplification enabled stringed instruments to emerge from their subservient roles in the rhythm section, certain young guitarists and string bass players began to shine as soloists. There are no less than 17 guitarists represented on Hep's Swing to Bop: Guitars in Flight 1939-1947, and 12 of these are featured as improvising artists. The most famous among jazz lovers, and justifiably so, is Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who is represented here with six superb examples from relatively late in his career. Other names that may ring bells are Al ...

| | Todd Hoke Headed West On 10 CD (2002)
Adentro CD music
$14.79 Todd Hoke was born and raised in Conroe, Texas. He learned to drink coffee while attending Sunday School at the First United Methodist Church, a habit he continues today with some regularity. Todd can do 20 push-ups in a row and has run in the Motorola Marathon in Austin twice without passing out or throwing up. Todd's wife, Meg, thinks he's the best singer-songwriter EVER and his mother, Jody, agrees. Todd's father, Lester, was unavailable for comment. Todd thinks the world would be a better place if more people would read TR Pearson's "A Short History of a Small Place," Richard Bradford's "Red Sky at Morning," and John Kennedy Toole's "Confederacy of Dunces." At home in Austin, Todd is frequently seen sitting on his front porch writing, playing guitar, or staring blankly into space. Todd has never eaten Brussels sprouts, and he never will. This from Todd: "It had been a dream of mine for some time to put a few of my songs together on a CD and I'm extremely proud of how it turned out (though I did refrain from putting a "Ask me about my CD" bumper sticker on my Civic). Ray did a great job producing and freed me up to really focus on the music. He also mined his Rolodex to get the best players available to bring the songs to life - it was awesome to hear these folks playing MY songs. It's always hard to know, when everything is done, whether or not you've done everything right - maybe I should've hired a bagpiper or tried to sing more like Tiny Tim... The comments, compliments, and reviews I've received since the CD's release lead me to believe that despite these doubts, we did good work."Todd Hoke's CD, "Headed West on 10," features songs about West Texas, late-night conversations with ...
